this whole debacle started because I simply asked what people were disgruntled about on this board. From there it became a personal attack on me for some unknown reason. And all I did was ask a question wanting to know the specifics for someone being upset and I got pointed out as being one of the problems. First of all I didn't think that my post was in the wrong area, I didn't intentionally put it in the wrong area, I thought it was in the right place. And the apology that came was put on this board because I was apologizing for doing something wrong here, in my minds eye it wasn't wrong to do. In hindsight (which of course is 20/20) I should have just posted the I am not a moocher post in with the DRAS post but as I stated I didn't think I was doing anything wrong posting it here - and it did contain cigar related business. I personally think that Slim should post the rules on where each post should go - maybe on the cigar and related forum put what type of posts belong there, and same for the trade posts - I think the misc topic can be figured out once the rules for cigars and related and trades have been sorted out. If it is broken down then it can be remembered and followed. Can you please do this Slim so we can avoid this situation again - thanks ever so much!

Liz... you make some valid points. As a suggestion I might ask you to hit the Return key once in awhile. It would make longer posts easier to read...

Here's an example or two -
A newbie going on to defend the fact she is not a moocher......
A post on this board that starts off with " I know this is not cigar related..."
and a demonstrated general lack of cigar knowledge or insights or reviews..... but a whole lot of miscellaneous and peripheral...which is ok on the misc board - this is the place for a discussion on Cigar related items - not discussions on character flaws or things that in the writer's own words - are not cigar related.

nothing personal? hmmmmmm seems very personal to me and I would think to a lot of others since there is an accusation that we don't know anything about cigars or how to do reviews and the like....

it is true I may not know a lot about cigars and it is also true I give sucky reviews, but at least I ask questions etc to learn more about cigars and even though I might not give good reviews or know how to say the things I need to say to give good reviews at least I do reviews. I've been smoking cigars less than 2 months - I'm not familiar with enough brands and tastes to be able to express myself the way I would like.

I rely on those that have been smoking cigars for a while to teach me, not to point out my faults, things that I do wrong. As for posting, yes it is nice to have someone either poking fun at you saying ut oh your in trouble - Slim going to slap you when you post in the wrong area or Slim himself gently telling you where to post, not having someone be nasty about it. all it does it cause hurt feelings and dissention. I know that I need to let this go, but I think I deserve an apology. I have already apologized numerous times for my posting in the wrong area. And I will do my best to post in the correct areas from now on.

Yes, I am a newbie and proud of it thank you very much! and am proud to call many on these boards my friends! hugs to all that supported me last night - meant a lot to me. plan to light one up a bit later in everyone's honor! 🙂 but which one should I light up?? any suggestions??? 🙂

you know something...if you don't like the way the cigars and related board is - why don't you start CIGAR threads - or are we too dumb to be able to conversate with you all? From what doc said we must be. So show us what you know since we don't know anything according to your standards. Give us your knowledge, inform us about cigars and how to give reviews. Or are you all talk and no walk? You seem good at pointing out people's faults - why don't you show us how cigar discussions should go!

then do something about it. If you and doc and whoever else want CIGAR discussions why don't you initiate them. I'm sorry but if you want change you can't just sit around and wait for it to happen because 9 times out of 10 that isn't going to happen. When you want change YOU have to do something about it. And why do you say I don't understand. I'm a newbie, yes, and I have a lot to learn about cigars and I want to learn. So if you and doc have wisdom, I know I would love to hear it as I'm sure others would too. To just sit and complain about it isn't going to do any good, only actually doing something will help the situation out. I for one have had some great conversations about cigars here so I'm not sure what the problem is really about. Yes, things get off topic, but show me a place where it doesn't. hell on the other board I'm on Frankie has to remind us to keep on topic - and I'm sure anyone that is on other boards will tell you the same thing happens there too. It is going to happen, but that is why you have board administrators like Slim who will guide us back to where we belong. Give us a bone to chew on - give us a cigar topic to discuss - something that we can learn from or have fun discussing. I've had enough of the complaining about things not being relevant - either stop complaining about it or do something about it - it is that simple.

Ok I can't help myself. One of the things that some of the FOGs are trying to address is that we just need to give a little more thought about where they post certain messages. If we all try just a bit harder we "would be able" to carry on more informative discussions.

I'll use myself as an example, I love to post cigar reviews but frequently there is so much off topic chatter that by the end of the day the review is no longer on the displayed page. I know that not everyone has seen it, so we have just lost that valuable teaching tool that you were speaking of.

Everyone at some point in time will be guilty of infringement of the rules and etiquette of this board. Hell I consider myself one of the FOGs and I even get slapped for etiquette violations. Additionally there will be run-ins between the hundreds of personalities on this board. My first one was a long time ago with Bassdude who I thought was disparaging my trade stock. Now I’m proud to call him one of my best trading partners. The point I’m trying to make here is we are all individuals and all certainly different. The internet is a very impersonal media and can’t convey emotion and body language as in a normal conversation. So everything really needs to be taken with a large dose of salt.

I like to think that I can read into peoples personalitities by what they post. Some of us are fun loving and laid back. Others are more contemplative and detailed. But there are some very obvious participants who have chosen to take leadership roles on this board, some are coordinators some are negotiators and others assist in policing. It’s a big job and I for one am grateful they do it.
