Simplicity at its best. a 10

You can actually read these forums without the flame wars that seem to dominate the others.

It is of my opinion that C-Bid has the best #1 forum on the entire internet and that the people responsible for this forum and the up keep of said #1 forum are doing the best #1 job of keeping this forum #1. JonR Ps: Did I happen to mention I could use some matches.

I've never before been interested in this sort of nonsense. However, I have found the CBID forum as addictive as CBID bidding.

This is the board I look to for real Cigar related discussions... I visit another board that is more fun for light banter, and I visit yet another board for all things AF.

I would have to give this forum a 3 on technology. I would like to see the ability to edit a post and better search technology like looking up a specific posters previous posts and replies. As for signatures, and those annoying little smiley faces I would hope they never add them tom this forum.

As for people, I would rate this forum as a strong 9. I would however like to add that some folks here need to lay off the politics and news once in a while and post something of more substance on the misc. board. Sorry but posting a link to every news article you happen to find interesting is getting old. Most of us here know how to go to CNN, MSNBC of yahoo news. I don’t come here for that. Also posting a cut and paste of the latest political opponent “bash” is getting a bit old around here as well.

What the heck does “GIG’EM” mean?

KCOSY,

Its something people say at A&M University, here is the story.

Gig'em, Aggies!"—a phrase known by Aggies everywhere, dates back to the time when Texas A&M was an all-male military school. Usually accompanied with a "thumbs up" hand signal (or just on it’s own), "gig’em" has been part of Aggie jargon for decades. Several different stories exist explaining the true origin of "gig’em." Here are a few of our favorites (and probably the most credible!):

Back in ol' army days at Texas A&M, minor demerits given by sophomores to derelict fish during uniform inspections were called "gigs." Apparently there was one sophomore who was notorious for going overboard while inspecting the fish, giving an excessive number of gigs. His sophomore buddies would get a kick out of watching him reprimand the fish and would say, "Yeah, gig 'em Pinky!" (this Aggie's nickname). It stuck from there.

Another legend tells that "gig'em" originated from the old Southwest Conference days when the Ags played the TCU Horned Frogs. At Yell Practice before the 1930 A&M/TCU game when the Horned Frogs were a nationally ranked football team, Pinky Downs ’06, who was then a member of the Board of Regents, shouted out, "What are we going to do to those Horned Frogs? Gig’em, Aggies!" (a frog-hunting term). For greater effect, Pinky gave the first "gig’em sign" (a fist with his thumb extending straight up). This, by the way, was the first use of a hand sign by a Southwest Conference team.

A different story relating to the "thumbs up" hand signal originates back to the days when burr-headed Aggie cadets frequently attempted to hitch a ride up Highway 6 back to College Station on Sunday afternoons or after vacations.

Either way, it’s no surprise that the Aggie use of hand signals as a way of showing spirit has a storied past and rich history behind it.

Gig'em!

I rate the people a 9, but the technology a 6. I like the idea of a "member profile" section listing things like emails, cigar likes, addies for bombing, etc. like that "weekly" place. I, too, get bored of scrolling past quotes, and other debris. Plus, an edit and preview feature would be nice.

I hope the staff is looking at this thread. I like the profile suggestion. Chat might be kinda fun too (maybe we should start a Yahoo or MSN group??)

Anyway I too would like to chime in on the excessive cutting and pasting of excessively long politically motivated editorials and news articles on the Misc. board especially without sources. If its longer than 3 paragraphs, post a link instead. Quite frankly, With a link I can ascertain the source and make better judgment on the legitimacy of what's presented.

In generally, I wont waste my time with too many posts over 3 paragraphs. That being said.. I'm not perfect, I've had a couple of long rants in here. Sometimes we get a little too emotional... Oh well. I try to maintain a sense of humor and on that note.... more humor both original and linked could be one thing that would make this board more fun. Tickle my funny bone, OK??

I only "belong" to one other forum. It's a Canadian site with cigar talk being a large part of it. The people there are very nice as they are here. One guy sent me a couple of sticks that are hard to come by down here just for joining in.

The problem is that they mainly discuss ISOMs so I rarely feel I can contribute with my limited experience. Where CBid realy excels is in it's character. I thoroghly enjoy the "cowboy" fire that often spews from the mouths of us American Blokes. There are some strong personalities here that rarely cease to crack me up.
