you must be very rich, and live in a mansion, and so I dont think you can hold anything over your wifes head. and besides when it comes to sex, she can hold out way longer than you can anyway.

Our first washer/dryer was hotpoint. We got 11 years out of them and paid around $700 for the pair. So this time we went with Maytag. After 2 years we have had more problems than 11 with the other set.

I am not a happy Maytag owner and will not recommend them.

Here's the fix. Put a small rug in the machine, turn machine on to long spin cycle, get momma to hop up onto the machine and when that thing starts to spin off center, you and her enjoy the ride and forget about how much it cost and think about the fringe benefits a heavy duty washer can do for ya. Also, make sure you lay out a towel or something because that metal can pretty darn cold on the bottom.

... you're missing the point ... the REAL reason behing the "big bucks" on a washer & dryer set is to get a washer that WON'T vibrate/shake when it goes into the spin cycle ...

Our first dryer came from a yard sale. $10. Used it for almost 7 years. The motor capacitor was burned out so we had to start the drum by hand:
[step 1]open the door and fill the dryer with clothes.
[step 2]set timer and turn dryer on
[step 3]press safety switch with index finger of left hand.
[step 4]spin drum with right hand.
[step 5]close door very quickly before drum stops spinning.

We didn't have very much money then. My bride was happy just to have a clothes dryer instead of hanging clothes outside, especially in winter.

She probably feels the same way about a $3000 plasma TV. (I know my wife does) But no way is a washer dryer in that price range going to preceed the TV in my house.

What are you going to do? Diference is that the $3000 W/D stays in the washroom and doesn't really do much to enhance the quality of life at home over a $1000 combo. Perhaps a fridge or a range that sits in the kitchen where you can expect use more often and impress guests congregating in your home but a $3000 washer dryer?? I'm really scratching my head.

Perhaps if it could remove cigar burns in your jeans.

Front loading washers use less water and spin faster so less drying time is required. You can go to the Sears store and buy their brand for about $600 plus a dryer, and they can be stacked.

I hope you didn't discuss that washer and dryer set right after the UPS driver delivered a 20 lb box full of cigars.

You might also offer to have your work shirts laundered to avoid ironing them. I was on a two-month business trip and getting my shirts done by a local laundry. My wife found out it cost a $1.35 per shirt. That was about 15 years ago, when I’m done here I will be dropping off my shirts at the laundry. She does still iron her scrubs for work.
