I know where you are talking about. My dad worked for Voice of Music in Benton Harbor and then Whirlpool in St. Joseph. He got laid off in '82 and never really recovered. My first job was with Auto Specialties. Good thing that company went belly up. I'm glad I lost that job. I know that wouldn't sit well with the Autos faithful, but c'mon. 18 years old, I wanted to meet chicks. I didn't want to set cores all day and try to rub skin all night. Not good for the hands. My hands felt like they went thru a sand blaster.

I went there for my 18th birthday and a guy named "Ugly Mike" bought me a beer. So did about 6 other guys. I drove home about 10 MPH. Glad my dad was sleeping.

I know where that is. Is it still there? I haven't been in downtown St. Joe for at least 15 years. You and I would sure have crossed paths at one time.

You remember the Pumphouse? Just down the street. Same side, only closer to the river. Was called HI's Saloon last time I was back there.

Remember it, I closed it down a time or 2 with the frat gang. I was an Aplha Phi Omega from LMC. We owned it. Pumphouse Bill was our sponsor. Someone ran him over outside of the "Cove" in downtown St. Joe about 1980.
