I don't keep a journal, but, have gone to cigar aficianado.com and opened an account. With that you get "My Humidor", it's sort of like a journal and a decent way to keep track of what you like, and you also get to read what others think of a particular smoke. Plus there is a cigar rating feature, check it out you might like it. Best of all it's free.

I also keep notes in a small leather journal. I had the journal lying around just gathering dust so I decided to keep bands on things I like and jot a couple notes. I've done that with beer labels for years and, if nothing else, it's great to go back and check out the old notes. Since I pick up Cubans now and again it's helped me to go back and see what might have been a fake (which explained why some of them sucked!) It's also a nice way for me to recommend cigars to friends who want to try them for the first time.

Hey Tailgater, got some issues with your manlihood huh? I keep a Dosier, or "Diary" as Tailgater is afraid of having because of his issues. It makes sense, it's educated and somewhat sophisticated. This way you can look back and see what you like and don't, you'll know what to smoke when and what not too, it's a great thing.

Why do some of you call his journal a diary? Is he writing about his dates and what kind of clothes he wore? Is he writing about how he professed love to a girl and shes broke his heart? Get real. The guys just trying to keep track of what he smoked so he doesnt go out and buy crap again if he didnt like it! You never documented something before? Do big companies keep "diaries" of their taxes or profits? A journal is a journal and records are records.

Thanks guys... I knew I couldn't be the only one who keeps one of these journals or diaries or whatever you want to call 'em. I like doing it and I just wanted to know if anyone else did too. If you think its a waste of time or that I'm a sissy because of it.... oh well, I ain't gonna lose any sleep over it.
Thanks again for the input ------- Tony

yep, sort of. i keep some notes inside the back cover of a cigar book. write down the brand, wrapper and size/model with some general notes of what it tasted like, what i thought of it, and a rating from sux to yummy. helps keep track.

I drink with every cigar I smoke, and I keep a log. I just can never remember where it is.

Big Tony,
I have a log. It's grown so much that I now call it the Big Log. When I got serious about cigars I decided to keep track -- a spreadsheet was the answer. I tracked online costs, my inventory, size, shape, wrapper, binder, filler, country, others' ratings, my own views, etc. I've reached the point, however, where I know what I like, a good value, and where to go to get both without spending time with it. So the Big Log's not getting much bigger. A log is a good tool to accelerate through the steepest part of the learning curve, however, and I'd recommend using one.

i use a software called cigar trakker. its pretty good. mainly so i can tell when i bought the cigars, and how much i paid. it remembers much better than my brain does.
