You know what I think? I think we should have an "annual theory". This year, let it be that "intelligent" thing or whatever. Next year, we'll all be from different countries, but all be decendent from "Cuban Seed".

i think the christian right that prefers to accept creationism should stay out of science and stay away from the school systemss curriculum. we already did the scopes trial once. nough is enough.

schools are to teach information, not faith. they can go to their churches for their faith.

this constant "darwin is only a theory." is just stupidity. evolution has a damn good foundation in fact. creationism has a good foundation in faith. there is a difference. faith doesn't have to be proven, evolution is constantly changing as more facts emerge.

i don't want to get into cain going forth to multiply when there were just the three of them. if that's your belief, good enough with me, but don't waste your energy trying to convince me that the study of the theory of evolution is false, it's only a theory, it can't be proven, when you start with cain as the premise to your dumb ass argument.

those of us who are not christian are not interested in your ideological arguments that show how little you understand the real world.

it's a good thing the bible has no math in it, or the schools would not be able to teach the multiplication tables.

prove that one plus one equals two. i know ther are mathematicians that can diagram a long formula to prove it, but simply put one plus one equals two because it is defined that way.

if red was originally called zzxr, zzxr painted cars would still oxodize.

go away you CR people and leave science alone, unless of course you want a flu shot which was developed by scientists, who i know were told by god how to develop the vaccine to offset the disease he created. i guess the same for polio, ad infinitum.

how are you CR people handling the proof that a form of life existed on mars.

I think that schools should teach facts.
I think that religions should teach Faith.

I do not see why there is such a problem with Facts for feeding the brain AND a Belief system (faith) to feed your inner being (some say soul).

...and sometimes I just think I just enjoy the pondering of it all.

I'll never be able to get my mind around the origins of the universe because I always end up at the same place regardless of which path I take. Assuming the creationism theory is correct then I must accept the fact that a creator existed and made everything out of nothingness. This is called faith.

If I follow the scientific theory that everything came from a big bang then I must accept the fact that the universe was created out of nothingness. This may not be called faith but it is surely an acceptance of a fact that can not be proved.

Perhaps my brain just isn't big enough to fathom the concept of nothingness.

I don't have a problem with public schools teaching creationism alongside evolution. I think they should both be given equal time. I don't recall exactly how much time my public school education spent teaching about the big bang and evolution theory but I can only assume that it was a fairly miniscule portion of my total education. If I had to guess, I'd say that during my high school years I probably received less than a couple of weeks worth of it in one of my science classes.

During high school, my core science classes consisted of physics, biology, chemisty, and a couple of elective science classes in oceanography and meteorology. So Darwin probably popped up a couple of times during my 4 years.

I'm not advocating for indoctrination in a religion but I don't see a problem with talking about the fact that religions exist, why they exist, the good that they do, the bad things that are done in the name of religion, etc. and it could all be done in the context of history. I also think the the Bible is an excellent piece of literature. I'm not familiar with other religious texts but assume they are also incredible sources of literature.

Learning about various religions does not equate to government sponsored religion. I was taught a variety of things in public school and later in college but the most important thing I ever learned was how to think for myself.

How do you see the curriculum addressing all the religions with equality?

nothing wrong with the teaching of religeon if the class is called the study of religeon. if the class is called science then religeon is in the wrong class.

besides the CR does not want the study of religeon, they want the study of their religeon.

i don't see any hindoism or buddism study suggested by the CR.

i agree with rick on this one.
study what the class calls for. people may disagree with the study of religion in schools, but if history class calls for the study of a certian religion, then the kids should be able to study it. if it calls for the study of a certian culture, let em study.

too many people are far to anal about subjects that, if they would just relax, would find out they are not "bad".JMHO

Creationism can be put to a test. Test the source where it came from. This does take a leap of faith as Darwin's theory does also. I believe a bigger one(Darwin) because I know the truth. What it really comes down to is a spiritual question. Were we created or did we just happen? This debate will only end when He returns, then we will all know. EI has said it many times, If we are wrong we have lost nothing, If they are wrong they have lost everything. Once you have made that choice its easy from there. Nothing to ponder ,debate, philosophies over, you just know the truth and the truth will set you free.

I would test your post dan ...is that a threadjack or did I miss the meaning? All I read there is a reaffirmation of your faith; which I do not mean to take away from at all, it is what I read. It does not address the topic.

How should a school system instuct on religions, if at all?

Art , my point is they say Darwin's theory can be proved by scientific fact but you can not prove creationism because it's a story in the Bible. Is that not intelligent design. I'm just saying then put the bible to the test. I personally don't see the difference because I have not seen enough evidence to prove Darwin's theory. It remains a theory and yes you can't prove creationism other than what the Bible says. As far as I can see they both take a leap of faith. If you see that as a threadjack I don't know what else to say other than intelligent design and Darwin's theory were the first things I read in the post.

WE SHOULD TEACH RELIGION IN SCHOOL Art, was this the post you were referring to? I have a hard enough time as it is keeping my thoughts straight. My wife tells me I'm half nuts as it is. LOL

In 5 1/2 years of college biology I was never taught once a complete line of evolution for one of todays animals let alone humans. This is not one, not one clear cut line of evolution. Yes there is a good amount of evidence that had more than one interpretation. Even the development of life from the soupy sea is not prove, can't be proven, and won't be proven. How sharks and rays are related other than they both have cartilage is unknown. Carbon dating is inaccurate. Leeky lied. There are continual archeological finds of older and older human remains that dispute the human evolutionary time line.

Evolution as sound scientific theory needs more "leaps of faith" than I can count, and more are found every year by the scientific community. So When my child Is taught evolution I tell him the truth of the evolutionary theory. One big guess.

....at the school down the steet from where I call "home" they have a mandatory hour of religious studies every day. It's abslolutely wonderful.....all the kids get together, and they learn the true meaning of love of God and what awaits them in Paradise when they are all called home. All these children love the class, and everyone gets along.

I wonder how the American expat parents feel knowing that their Southern Baptist children are being taught Hindu faith every day for an hour? Probably about as good about it as the Indian expat parents in the US feel about their kids being taught Christianity for an hour every day. They don't like it!

As long as there are kids in the school that either don't have a faith, or have a faith other than Christianity in the US school system, then Christianity should not be forced upon them.

I have no problem with faith being taught in school, but if it is a public school with ONE SINGLE non-Christian student, then it stays out....simple. It's only fair.

Oh sure, somebody is going to come along and say to me...."well, if those US parents choose to live and work in that country, then that's their fault and they should abide by that country's rules, and if the Indian parents choose to live in the US, then they should live by our rules." You're absolutely right! In that country the rules are that they teach Hindu faith in class every day. In America (land of the free), we don't teach faith every day.....we have freedom to choose.....
