The most I ever overpaid was $4 each for 4 5-packs of churchills. The first two were plugged and I tossed them. The third wasn't plugged and I wished that it was. I won't mention the brand because I don't want to offend anyone, but it starts with a c. Hint: California sight organs.

I'm with Charlie. I research or know what I'm willing to pay, set the autobid and let the bidding begin. If I lose, no big deal, I just try again or break down and try to find a decent price somewhere.

Slap me if I'm wrong but doesn't weekly shipping close out on Wednesday, not Thursday. It used to be Thursday but CB shifted off Friday shipping because the work getting out weekend orders was killing them. I guess I overbid before I saw lots going for a wide bid range. Now I do a lot more looking than bidding. I really like the "watch list" feature on the new site. If I've won stuff I'm prettty familiar with (price and taste) on Thursday or later I try to even out that week with brands and sizes I'm not. That way I keep the average cost per cigar down. But it also means I end up overbidding or coming darn close to internet retail. I wouldn't know a wholesale price if it dropped out of a Goodwill suit. I usually try to shoot my high bid at the per cigar median internet price on a box -- within a few cents. You can find cheaper prices but I like doing business here because the service is great. And if it's up for auction, it's in stock and will ship on time. Bottomline is the auction sets a market price that varies widely. When I can get a lot under that I've seen it go for earlier I feel pretty good.

No, it's Wednesday. I looked back for the change in weekly shipping schedule and found the message below from Gonz...I read it to say CBid mails weekly shipments on Thursdays for closed lots from Thursday of the prior week through Wednesday of the current week -- In effort to improve CigarBid's service for our weekly shippers, we're making a small modification to the weekly shipping schedule.
Starting next week (week of Mar. 4), we are moving our weekly shipping schedule to include lots closed Thursday night (of previous week) through Wednesday night (of current week.) At present, our weekly shippers receive lots closing Friday through Thursday. Weekly invoices will then be generated and emailed on Thursday morning instead of Friday morning.

anybody besides me think that X and mh are actually saying the same thing, but each in a way that each thinks the other is wrong? I'm quite sure that each understands correctly when the bidding week begins and ends, they're just stating it in opposite ways ... at work, we have the same sort of disagreement all the time between two people who are in constant disagreement over the end of the pay period ... each understands correctly what the pay period is and when payday falls, but each thinks the other wrong because of how they explain it ...

okay, Steve, so much for taking sides...Let's try this: The bidding week for weekly shippers begins when a Thursday begins and ends when the following Wednesday ends. Lots won during that week are shipped on the Thursday immediately following the end of the bidding week. For a weekly shipper, nothing closes Thursday. It all begins on a Thursday.

X, I hereby convey on you the Royal Honor of Zeno's Paradox and all the rights and privileges appertaining to. Here is your bow. Fine bow. Here is your arrow. Straight arrow. There is your target. Now, unlike mere moral beings, you are a god who can shoot an arrow so that it goes only half way to the target.

I don't think that I have overbid too often... just don't let my wife see the cc bills or she might have a different view on my purchases... overall she's pretty good at not saying much about my buying stuff.. cigars and electronics... she just goes and buys some more jewelry or clothes to spite me
