I used both, but also added star anise, a little apple pucker liquor and dehydrated apple slices to each jar.

Its good but too sweet for me, and the two jars that got two cinnamon sticks are too cinnamoney.

I agree on the too sweet part, Apple Pucker sounds like an interesting add in, cut the sugar back by 1/2 and add to taste? Got anudder batch comin up soon, need to locate the Apple Pucker. If ya used simple syrup ya could wait till everthings cooked , cooled and ready to sample before adding the syrup?

Yeah Im gonna just cut the sugar back next time (only used brown btw).

The freaking dehydrated apple slices are packed with alcohol!
