Just looked at those blank bands at online labels and those are just the ticket! Thanks again!

Don't want to write on the Cello with a sharpie if the Cello is porous.

It's not that porous. I only started storing cigars in earnest last summer and after I decided to leave the cello on(typical noob dilemma) I started using a fine tip Sharpie myself. I will admit to this small bit of anal retentiveness, I allow the ink to dry before I put the stick in the humi which releases the volatile compounds which could possibly taint your cigars. So far I can't see any negative affects.

Use an extremely odorous marker and write the dates on the wrapper of your cigars.

Why use markers? get a sheet of blank address labels and pencil a date and stick it on your cello. Or you could just smoke them. I age some, but have never needed to mark them. I know the inside of my humis like I know every square inch of my glorious naked body.

Steve

go to cigargeek.com

sign up...it's free

make yourself online (virtual)humidors

You can add subtract divide whatever your heart desires

it gives you a place to enter maker brand, line in brand, vitola in brand, price, quantity date received.

it has everything.

there is also a space for you to add personal notes for each stick.Such as who from and why and crap like that.

As for the sticks you want to mark and age/save.Leave the friggin cello on.unfold the foot band, take a fine pt sharpie and write on it until your hearts content.

But for the sake of all things holy man.Leave the *****in cello on the sticks.

godd bye

Uni-ball micro pens work great. Very fine point allows for very small letters/numbers, ink doesn't smell and dries quickly. I usually just write the mon/yr (ie: 6/12) I received the stick on the extra cello at the foot.

yep - uni-ball is the way I go. I started with a spreadsheet, but I ended up with too many cigars and a hard time distinguishing multiple buys & a hard time FINDING the cigar I wanted from the spreadsheet to the humi.

If it's something I might store for a while, I usually write the year on the flap of cello that folds over and I leave it out several minutes to let the strong smell dissipate. If it's something I know I'll smoke soon, I don't bother dating it.

your spreadsheet programming skills may need a little boost then

it's pretty easy to link worksheets and keep track of thousands of cigars

mine (which took all of 10 minutes to program) keeps track of

1) stick count and date in my humi

2) where it it stored (each humi broken into 4 quadrants, cooler broken into 13 different trays/boxes/bins)

3) alphabetical list of all sticks I have ever owned - even if I currently don't have any

4) smoking notes/ratings

5) what i paid

I have 600+ cigars, and I find this system perfect. But I'm borderline ocd, so I need to have something like this, or I'd be a stress bucket.

I rarely open a humi/cooler to decide what to smoke - I look at my spreadsheet.

In fact, it's Friday afternoon, need to check out my spreadsheet............a Padilla Sig. Series 1948 Lancero I'm thinking........

That's probably it

I don't get sticks every day, only 3 or 4 times/month

so it goes pretty quick, cause I know ahead of time what I'm getting, etc.

Everything get entered, the last decision being where to put them (depends on space, etc.)

For me, it's just something I have to do, cause I'm somewhat of a neat freak/organization nut

Whenever my wife is pissed at me for some reason or another, she threatens to move around 20 to 30 cigars between the cooler and the humis......just to fuq with me, cause she knows that would drive me crazy not knowing where my sticks are

I need help.....I know this......

Isn't it fairly easy to copy your spreadsheet with all the programing you've done and just clear the cigar data and maybe email your spreadsheet to me and anyone else who wanted to check it out? Just curious I'd really like to take a look at your setup and who knows might be exactly what I want. I would appreciate it if you don't mind.
