With the monster series out and secondary market prices now hitting the streets, I had a question on valuation...

NOTE: I know there are folks (lots of them) who believe MSRP is THE price and it should never be more. This isn't really a question for that type of thinking. This is a question for those who sometimes "collect" the smokes rather than just fire them all up.

What is a complete set of dress Monster's worth right now?

What is a complete set of Flying Pigs worth right now?

Fuente (aged) collections (I'm thinking about the yearly 22 releases)?

Obviously, this thread can be revisited from time to time so see how valuation changes.

You can post the prices you see for them, could be worth a giggle or two, heck it may be a case where the cigars are worth more money to someone than they are to collect and they'll want to sell them.

Anyway, post away!

I've seen TAA 2011s approach $280/box

Monster sets go for north of $2000, before The Mummy. Frank is the most expensive single dress box, and it's not even close. The main thing is that they are so rare and in such high demand (for the early boxes) that the valuation changes every time one is up for sale and increases with each release, since more and more people get in on collecting while fewer exist (as they are smoked).

Around Halloween the monsters go up alot even For singles. Frank and Boris being most expensive. But I think wolfman is still staying in a reasonable msrp ballpark.

Side note:

I have a humidor full (all 30 sticks in plastic wrap still) of La Gloria Cubana Serie R Limitado 2006. I was WAY excited to get it. I smoked a loose one the Skipper had sent me in trade and realized I didn't have time for those monster smokes!

It's not a "hot" internet brand, so I would imagine the price would be MUCH lower then the original $650 at this point. What do ya'll think it's worth now?

I just had to go through this exercise. I'm taking out an insurance policy for my collection and once I burn through them I'm gonna put in a claim that they were destroyed by fire.

Yeah later releases are staying more moderate for a few reasons- they were already collectors items when released, so people bought them specifically to collect, keeping more intact and smoking less... not to mention that far more were released. Most of the Frank were sold stick by stick to people wanting to smoke them, rather than snatched up by horders, so few unopened boxes remain.

With the later releases, people that wanted to smoke the stick could by non-dress boxes, allowing collectors to keep the fancy box unopened. This in turn adds more potential collectors to the pool, driving up the cost of the original boxes. You'll see this on practically every yearly released collectable anything.

I'm actually running out of room in my humidor and considering selling some stuff to make room. BUT, it's hard for me as I am both - CHEAP and POSSESSIVE!

They were a fantastic release but they aren't likely to be a yearly collectable. I think they will more or less top out around where they are now as long as future releases are roughly as good. They are the OR right? That will keep so demand over MSRP on them, but as long as new releases are assumed, the price won't spike like other one time only Tats.

Speaking of quickly inflating Tat LEs, look at those little boris!

I don't know if I agree. Seems like the size may change each year. I've been reading a lot of folks saying they liked the '11 better then the '12. Of course, the 11s are a year old at this point, but folks are saying the change in shape has changed the profile.

Perhaps those 11s won't be "replicated" again?

Hey, I didn't say they would make the 11 in exact flavor and profile- just that newer versions will keep the price of the OR down, since many people will be "content' to try the newer versions... rather than it being a cigar of lore, like the pork tenderloin. The OR will still be more valuable, but I don't think the prices will reach the epic levels of the highly prized one-off Tats.

And I agree with DMV- I try to smoke my best sticks. I really try not to collect. I'm already down to only 5 little boris left. But I do find the cigar secondhand market fascinating, so I enjoy discussing it.
