For those that have gone before, are the cigars you get at the event worth the price tag? My buddy and I have pre-registered but have never been to one, nor anyone we know. Thoughts thanks.

I was wondering same thing. I figure the free cigars are going to be kind of a let down but it will be my first time going so I want to get the whole experience then go from there.

That really depends on what you consider to be a good cigar value. For the average CI buyer, they'd be a fantastic deal. To the folks who think that a 10% - 20% discount win here is awesome, they'd be a very good deal. To me, who rarely pays more then 20% to 25% of CI RSP, not so much. Some good sticks, some really really bad (PI), many CI exclusives (5 Vegas, MOW, Diesel, etc.), and sometimes cigars not even offered here. Just don't expect DE to be handing out Ligas. More like a choice between a Kuba Kuba or a Tabac Especial, and maybe something like a sungrown from Fuente.

If you're going, go for the experience. The cigars are just a bonus.

Thanks for the information, we are definitely going for the "whole" experience. The cigars are the added bonus. SO it sounds like outside is where it is. What time do you recommend showing up? Sounds like a possible tailgate atmosphere..

Thanks again,

Let me put it this way. The last time I was there (2 years ago), I got there before 7AM. The parking lot was already packed.

Man is there a long line to get in or does it move fast. I am getting the tickets for 2 hrs earlier but that sounds like I am gonna want to get there way earlier.

Last year, we got 1000 people inside the event in 15 minutes. Thats from the time the line moves until the very last person gets inside. We've been doing this for, well, nine years so we have a pretty good method of getting LOTS of people through the line quickly.

Waiting in line can be hours but its definitely a party atmosphere. Some of the guys bring chairs and then one of the group takes them back to the car just before the line starts moving. Heck, some of them are sitting there when we get there about 2 hours before the first group enters.

As for the cigars you get - I think its a pretty good deal. But better (to me) than the cigars is the humidor and ashtray, which are different each year. I have all of the humidors on display in my home. You won't find anything like it anywhere else.

I look forward to it each year and I have to work it!! LOL

Thanks alot for the information. Really helps to get an understanding of wait we are getting ourselves into. Now just to get the tickets.

People debate the quality of cigars but I think it's a great deal. Also getting to get such a variety I was able to try some sticks I never would've bought, and some I really loved. The experience is great, go and have fun and like above, the cigars and stuff is a bonus.

Bring some $$ for T-shirts you won't regret it. Also lots of raffle tickets to buy for some unique one of a kind SWAG, Humidors and boxes of newly released cigars. Two years ago Jonathan Drew gave one winner the custom made leather jacket right off his back.

Three years ago, JD gave away your choice of a box of cigars a month for a year. If I had won that, I would have a cooler full of T-52s and Rats. The winner probably chose ACIDS, lol.

Oh, and since I wasn't there last year, I don't know if they continued it, but I do remember them raffling off those 5 Vegas Jeeps.

2 years ago, Steve Saka had a little private get together in the parking lot of his hotel room that he invited board members to, where he handed out pre-production Ligas for folks to try.

Sounds to good to be true. What kind of prep would you recommend for the parking lot? Pack for tailgate or just walk around?

This is a possibility this year... Haven't been out since 1997.

No tickets though. Parking lot, much better!

I might even bring the husband... :-"

May take a few extra days again and do what we want this time around... Maybe head up to Maryland and see some Blood...

I know some posters have worked the event in the past. A friend and I are interested in volunteering, how can we get in touch with the right people to offer our time helping out at a vendors booth?

^ Check the CI site where you registered. All the official events are listed there, plus there are a TON of unofficial herfs and tailgating

REALLY???? That would be awesome. I would make sure we go this year if you are planning on going. It would be great to see you again. Let me know as soon as possible so we can make arrangements. Most likely I would just do the parking lot this time. That is where the party is.

And wasn't that 2007?

I saw that page. I'm talking about all the extra events at split rock. There's nothing happening there on Friday night. Last years events were pretty good there.
