voom is in and up and running with no problems. we watch the box on hd in the living room and we tape some movies in the bedroom. it turns out if the signal is in hd, the vcr will records it in hd and we can watch it in the living room where the hd tv set is located. there is some loss, but my eyes aren't that good anyway.
other then court tv, i watch the travel stuff in hd. the pictures are beautiful.
it's true most of the special programs they have in hd are old movies, but toby likes the old movies and this is an excellent way for her to see them.
the people at voom did not know i could program something to tape and also program the receiver to turn on. they suggested i just leave their receiver on all the time.
the installation was free and i convinced them to give me their full vavavavoom $99.00 pkg for three months at $49.00 and i am commited for three more months at $99.00
so far i don't see any reason to change back to direct tv. right now voom probably has the least amount of decent programing to offer, so it can only improve, but the picture quality is in fact better then the direct tv.
newer satellite, different part of the sky, who knows.
