No, just as long as you know what they are and more importantly you would smoke them yourself.

This goes along with cello on/off.

Everybody knows the wrapper is where all the flavor is, so of course you leave the cello wrapper on. That's also why yellow cello is a good thing, cuz it means the cello is nice and aged.

DUH.

Paul,

What prompted this question?

Did someone tell you it was in poor taste?

You're giving a gift. You consider the reason and give accordingly.

One of the best cigar ever gifted to me was an unbanded knock-off from another cigar site.

It had some serious age, but it was a fantastic smoke.

If you're not sure how good something is, then ask for their opinion when you gift it. "I just picked these up. Let me know what you think."

Don't fall into cigar snobbery.

^ +1

but of course I'm still on the giving end of unbanded cigars lol

IMO, however, a lot of them are pretty good. Just smoked one tonight as a matter of fact.

Paul, what tailgater said about the snobbery. There's some oneupmanship around here but I feel that if folks can put the ego aside for a minute many of the unbanded sticks are just as good if not better. Come to think of it, that's how some Cubans arrive anyway... Just provide a little note or description explaining why you think they'll enjoy them. Your real friends will appreciate. The status phonies will go by the wayside (good riddance). You should see some of the "trash" (in other people's eyes) that Rickamaven & I have exchanged over the years. lol

Btw, speaking of bad form, I'd be more concerned about re-gifted or re-banded sticks. I've "recognized" the returned, brown prodigal son and occasional impostor. 🍺

The main reason I don't care for unbanded sticks is that they get lost in the humi and I forget what they are.

Keep them pinned to your cork bulletin board w/colored pins waving label flags. Then log your entries into a special imitation leather book w/lock that goes next to your diary under the pillow, Z6.

I know I know after all the help you've been to me, I bust your maracas. lol

Every time I buy unbanded bundles, I cut off the package label & include with the sticks grouped together by cedar partition or attach loosely with rubber band to bundle. Sticky note paper works well also on individual sticks which I usually leave on top trays and then either remember what they were or don't give a shiite. Just enjoy.

Its only bad if you take the bands off bad sticks and try to pass them off as good.

I use to get a ton of un banded smokes. But the brothers that sent them to me told me what they were and because if who these ppl are I don't think twice about it.

Now if some guy u never met gave u an unbanded smoke and said it was a rare peppin prototype I would just smoke it and not send it to anyone unless u trust the person completely.

On this note, is it impolite to regift smokes that someone has gifted you?

I have always been under the impression that it was rude to do so. Sometimes I owe a PIB and almost all I have are smokes that someone has gifted to me, so I wait until I get a new shipment to pick from.
