Well, there seems to be some difference of opinion regarding the definition of persistent vegetative state.

Rick.......

Been to high school and majored in science; with an emphasis on bilogical sciences. Went to college and took some more science and college math, including......algebra. So whenever you decide to actually answer the question instead of.......once again ofering ad hominem attacks when you obviously don't know me.......please feel free to do so.

maxelrod.......yup, vegetative people do that regularly.

He didn't major in spelling... I can see that.

Hey Mo (as voiced over by Curly) my son took Algebra in the 8th grade and you took it in college? I told you he was smarter than you.

I must say, I'm not sufficiently knowledgeable about the facts of her condition to have an informed opinion, but fail to see how this ever escalated to being something that Congress and the President would be weighing in on ...

Personally, I would hope that someone would have the good sense to pull the plug on me if I were in a vegetative state as she seems to be, but as a parent, I can sympathize with he folks who it would seem are hoping against hope that a miracle will happen and she'll wake up good as new tomorrow ...

I did want to say, though, about AVB's statement (above)

"... she is in a 'persistent vegetative state' ... nobody has ever recovered from 15 years in that condition." ...

if it is decided to euthanize this woman (and future others in her condition), no one ever WILL ...

Pretty safe bet that this is true already.

According to a CNN story dated only 10 minutes ago, this has now become a federal case ...

"Michael Schiavo was focused on Terri's death," the RN noted. "Michael would say 'When is she going to die?' 'Has she died yet?' and 'When is that bitch gonna die?'" (taken from a story on Newsmax.com)"

i would not believe this story or the rn's story. "when is that bitch gonna die." BS.

why doesn't her Husband sign over all rights to her parents??

why did he stop seeking PT and assistance for her betterment AFTER he recieved some $1 million plus for malpractice lawsuit? why 53 months later they have ex rays of recent broken bones that occured on her body??

why why why... but most importantly she is responsive which I just witnessed on live TV feed that Fox news was covering... she's not in a Vegitative State when she smiles after her mother kiss's her forehead???

And there are accounts from Many Doctors who say she is not in a vegitative state...

Glove don't fit... must Aquit!!!!!

I have been bothered about this case for a long time. I don't understand why he hasn't divorced her and made getting the settlement money as part of the divorce. I'm sure the parents would be thrilled to get rid of him. Why this guy hangs on is beyond me. I just can't see that it is only for the money. But what?????

Since he has moved on with his life, I don't understand why he wouldn't at least try the divorce route. Plus, money isn't everything and sometimes it just isn't worth it. My ex is in line to get $2,000,000 when his mom dies. As much as I would have loved to have gotten that money, I couldn't live like I was any longer. It just wasn't worth.

I can't imagine spending 15 years watching someone I love so dearly in that condition. That is such a long time. It must be heart wrenching to say the least.

My problem has been that the video and pictures that I have seen have all been from 2001. I haven't seen any recent video. Hog, you said they showed her live? If she truly is aware and can smile, then I can't see how they could let her die, but if she truly is in a vegetative state, then starving her isn't as bad as it sounds because she would not be aware of it any way. I guess the only people who REALLY know are her family and doctors. We all just speculate.

The court decided not to put the feeding tube back in. As hard as this will be for the parents, they need to get closure now. But imagine the void this will leave after spending 15 years visiting her. I have a feeling though that this isn't over.

They are not letting her die, they are killing her!

I have been following this for quite some time and it is disturbing.

Her husband has a girlfriend and two kids with her. This is after he told the press years ago he loves Terri and wants her to come home.

Michael and Terri were talking about a divorce. Terri already had plans to move in with one of her girlfrieds.

Terri's friends said Michael was very controlling and would not let her associate with her old friends. She could only hang out with his family and friends. They also suspected him of spousal abuse.

Several years ago Michale told the world he needed money to help rehabilitate Terri. He got millions and never helped as promissed.

What he did was take the money and spend it on his girlfriend. He immediately ordered a feeding tube installed. Terri was eating and is still cabable of eating, provided she is fed.

He told the nurses to leave her alone. Consequently she has bed sores.

It is illegal to starve a dog, so why is it ok to starve a human? She has a dissability and with help can get better.

Michael should give up his self imposed rights to Terri's parents so they can take care of their daughter.

Michael wants her dead and is getting his wish.

RDC, I completely agree with you that this is disturbing. And I in no way want it to sound like I think they should kill/let her die if she truly is cognizant. It is so hard to know what to believe because no one seems to be telling the WHOLE truth.

Like I said earlier, since he has moved on with his life and has started a new family, why doesn't he divorce her and let her be taken care of by her family? They are willing and able to do so. There seems like there should be a way for them to settle with him. Give him the rights to all of the money. Let him have it. If it is truly their daughter they are trying to save, then they should give him whatever he wants so that he will give up any/all of his rights to her. They have spent years fighting him and the courts. There HAS to be a way to get him to give up his legal rights. If she can truly be saved then they need to find out what it is--and FAST!!!!

I am surprised that Terri's family has not filed for custody because Michael broke the law by having an affair and family outside his marriage to Terri.

They could fight saying he obvioulsy does not have her best interest in mind, alienation of affection, the list is endless of what they can/should have done.

WOW!! Interesting web site. The timeline was amazing but it stopped in 2003/2004. I am still confused as to how she is RIGHT NOW. Plus this site is SO slanted that it really doesn't clarify anything. It only makes thing more confusing.

I am not one for government intrusion but until this is completely looked at, they shouldn't have taken the feeding tube out. The problem is getting it put back in before it is too late. And who else can the family go to? Do they have any options left?

Micheal must be a real control freak not to have let her family take over. Makes you wonder about him and what he is trying to hide and why he wants her to die so bad.

This is so horrible. I guess it is time to write a living will. I sure hope David takes care of me but at a certain point, I also hope he can let me go.

I'll also be writing a living will. My instructions will be to keep me alive by any or all means. Plug me in to the cigarette lighter if you have to.
