I was sitting in Rahul's shpo today when a guy, new to cigars, came in and was looking for some cigars.

He said that he had tried a Gurkha and liked it. I told him that he was in luck because Rahul carries about 1,000 cigars better than Gurkhas. He bought a couple more of them anyway but I did talk him into getting a JDN Antano 1970 since he wanted something strong.

R is amazing and he should really have a NewBie 5ct sampler to offer.
I know I could send that man $100 in a blind buy and without a doubt every cigar he shipped would be perfect! The man has great taste, untouchable prices and just an awesome Person and BOTL!

While I agree with my fellow gents, I would also suggest looking at the Gurkha website. What they have listed is what is currently an actual Gurkha... Everything else is just a toy.. Err... Wait wrong product.
Everything else is likely a cigar which has nothing to do with the original blend and is licensed to a company to produce and sell as a "gurkha"

I've found that most gurkhas on this site are not "real" gurkhas. Lately, however, I've seen Seduction, cellar reserve, and 125th anny which are current lines.

I've also noticed that most of the current production gurkhas are found in most better known B&M's. The Ghost is one that comes to mind which can only be found in stores. I'll add that the ghost is a damn good smoke, as gurkhas go.

You are on the money. Gurkha has revamped their whole operation. The current production lines are supposed to be B&M ONLY!

Only Gurkha I've ever had of any count was the Master Select, which, unfortunately, are being discontinued. I always thought that they had a unique flavor profile; press releases initially claimed that this stick was supposed to mimic a 1950s era Cuban Bolivar, one of the most famous cigars in history.

All other Gurkhas I've had, both CI/CBid exclusives and B&M lines have always left me with buyer's remorse. Never has a cigar company so consistently put out bad smokes that won't burn straight, are inconsistent from stick to stick, overpriced, overhyped, and most had the ever-famous Gurkha wrapper issues.

I got started on the Master Select and it is sad to see them fade away, but I'd recommend trying a little of most sticks and finding what you like. After 8 years, I've found some gangbuster cigars that can be had on the cheaps, although I still smoke Tatuaje, Illusione, Ashton, Fuente, Padron, and several other tried-and-trues for special occasions.

Just be patient...they'll be reincarnated online. It won't be the same cigar, but at least the band will be similar.

I have only had a problem with a few of the Ghurkas that I have smoked, but if what I am reading on this thread is correct, they must have been the ones that I ordered off of here instead of getting them at a shop?

Gurkha makes some of the best cigars in the world and I love hearing people bad mouth them. I'm not telling which are the really good ones or where to get them as I'm afraid the prices will go up.
I've not experienced any more wrapper issues than with any other brand, and rather have noticed that Gurkhas actually hold an ash about as well as any other brand.

I had a Centurian a while back......had 18 months of rest.......
it was very.......um............................had a rather strong cedar profile...............and there was this other flavor....................think it was cedar...................and there were hints of this spice, no, not spice per se........but............kind of a cedary spice...........and some bland tobacco notes here and there......
definitely worth about 75 cents............

on a serious note............there was one Centurian in that six-pack I paid $18 for (ouch!!)......that actually was decent........and I'd pay $3 for it if I could be certain to get one like that again.......but alas.................we're talking Gurkhaaaaaaa...................

Please explain this to me. If they are not 'actual' Gurkhas, what are they? What exactly are you implying here? Counterfeit cigars?

SteveR@CigarBid wrote:

Yep....that is EXACTLY what he's implying. This site doesn't sell the same Gurkha available in stores and you know it. You license the name and slap the band on another sub par cigar. And you're doing it more and more and more. I used to buy from here 2-3 times a month. Now it's been almost a couple of YEARS since I bought anything here. I simply don't trust this place anymore. I'll be HAPPY to let other people explore the stuff you peddle because I don't want very much of it anymore.

Wanna sell a decent Gurkha? Bring back the TPB - 1. Or tell me which AJ smoke is closest because that WAS an AJ smoke....NOT a Gurkha.

Never rocked a TPB - 1, but I did just snag a mazo of "Gurkha" San Miguels, which the internet rumour mill says are an AJF blend that got axed due some some copyright BS and were gathering dust. No mention or reference of Gurkha on the band or anything, just image and "San Miguel". I'll let you know if they are delicious. I sucker bought them on impulse since I was already going to be paying shipping on something. For under $2 a pop, though, I am willing to gamble on an AJ blend. There's always fishing, where I end up having to huck my cigar on a fairly regular basis. Catfish and gar certainly aren't fooling around or waiting for you to gently rest your smoke on a ledge. When they've taken a lil' humidor nap, I'll fire one up and keep you guys apprised.
