Can't say I've ever really noticed this as an issue.

How soon after eating are we talking? 10 min? 30 min? 1 hr? 2hr? 6hr?

I would suggest that you avoid eating anything that leaves an aftertaste. For me, that would include Mexican, Italian, and oriental (except Japanese, which has no aftertaste if you eat it properly).

Japanese food has no aftertaste? Ever had any Wasabi sauce? My dentist uses it instead of novocain to deaden my mouth before drilling. [sarcasm]

I always wait at least an hour after brushing my teeth to light up. Crest and cigars go together like oil & water.

Well, that game did. The Yankees won, and Mariano Rivera saved it in his last L.A. appearance, but I don't think it affected the taste of the cigar. I've had many great cigars after a ballgame, win or lose.

I never really had any problems with food or drink but I stayed away from smoking in really cold weather or when I had a head cold. YMMV

Yup, head colds ruin the taste of cigars for me, but it's rarely too cold to smoke here in SoCal.

sinuses will kill a cigar taste in a heartbeat. My first experience with it was like 8 years ago. I had some sinus issues going on. I lit a good cigar and pitched it. After doing this with the 3rd cigar, I decided to quit and something was wrong with my humidor. I consulted in a friend and yes, he called me a BIG dummie for smoking a cigar with sinus problems. You will NEVER taste anything and they all were very harsh. I felt like an azz and thought I was an ELITIST. 😣

I have been dipping skoal for 30 years. I soon learned not to light up a cigar if I have had a dip in the last couple of hours. Completely ruins the experience. The good news is that I dip a whole lot less these days even though I only average 2 cigars a day.

I eat a lot of spicy foods and that also ruins the smoking experience. Your basic meat and spuds seem to have no lingering effect on my taste buds.

Citrus juice, fish, and toothpaste are all things I avoid before a cigar.

I dont drink wine, but whiskey and good beer have been fine for me and dont seem to mute the flavors of a cigar.

Hey Ken,

Must be YOU! [frypan] I've had a few SSOSs with different 'gars and always had a good experience. If you haven't already, try an Ayinger Celebrator - man, that's good chit! A tad pricey but if I could afford to drink it often, I would (...but of course, YMMV...).
