When the federal government cuts a nationl program then the states must decide if they want to continue the program with their own money. There is nothing sinister about this. We, as a nation, elect people to represent our interests in the national government. If a majority of those representatives decide that a program must end, then the program ends. This is no different than what happens in local communities. If a majority of the city council (or county commission, or state general assembly) votes to start or stop a program, so be it.

Actions of the federal government give local politicians political cover in all cases. If a program is cut, then the local pols can complain about those nasty people in congress forcing higher taxes on local people. If a program is expanded then the local pols can complain about the nasty wasteful and inefficient congress. Either way local politicians have cover.

Whether a program is funded at the federal level, the state level or the local level it is stll our tax dollars paying for the program, so there is little room for complaining.

My response: REFUTED.
