Agree with Ryan. Hate is a strong word. Maybe not necessarily the right one, in this instance.

I don't like the yank-mes. For various reasons. I'm not even a big baseball fan, I just love to talk sports.

Maybe love is too strong of a word in this case... it is just a game... I LIKE to talk sports.

Glad you clarified MACS. In my house you can never say you love anything because one of the Smart Arse kids will say "then why don't you marry it". I wonder where they learned that. I'm sure it wasn't me.

"Lisa's going to marry a carrot!"

"Yes, I'm going to marry a carrot."

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I am an old time Royals fan, had tickets when George Brett played there, remember the great players like Freddie Patek,Brett, Al Cowens, Amos Otis, etc.....! I still pull for KC against everybody but no they cannot win it right now, so I am an Angels fan since I live in California and in NL like the Padres! I was in KC for opening night of Ewing Kaufmann field!

Charlie -

I remember the good 'ol days. I liked the mad hungarian. It's pretty rough right now though and has been since the mid eighties. I'd be thrilled with a 500 season.

Baseball is really messed up. The NFL has its own problems, but baseball could learn a thing or two from the NFL. I'm talking revenue sharing, sal. cap etc. not to mention drug use.

The K is still nice for its age, but is getting dated. There is a group that wants to build a downtown stadium (we are currently building a downtown arena). The baseball stadium will not happen though. I'd love to have a smaller, nicer stadium right in the heart of the city.

I kind of like Kaufman. Will probably see a game there this summer...but its way too far away from the heart of the city.

That could happen, the Royals have a good young group of players...Gotay, Teahern,Buck, DeJesus to name a few and Zack Grienke is as good a pitcher, for his age, in MLB.

Now they need to go the Minnesota Twins model of fightning the big money...develop their own young players and build from that!

I like Grienke. He is entertaining, and I agree he has talent. Unfortunately, the Royals will do a great job bringing him up so he can mature into a player that can help another team go deep into the playoffs... ala Houston and Boston last year.

They are constantly interviewing him because he is .. shall we say "out there". He reminds me of Spicoli from Fast times at ridgemont High.

Bautista could be interesting too.

Not to make this our little thread, but I was at the game in Anaheim on when Bautista shut down the Angels! Gotay had 4 hits and looked great!

Grienke reminds me of an old time flake from the golden era of baseball!

We have a winner folks... xibbumbero hit the nail on the head.

Yank-me haters don't hate the ballplayers, they hate the fact that their team has lost to those ballplayers year after year for 86 in a friggin' row...

Until that was reversed last year.

We can only guess at what was in that fan's head. To me, it seemed he was certainly trying to distract Sheffield. If he was swinging at him, it was the worst phantom punch since Sonny Liston.

Sheffield "thought" he got punched in the mouth? If you've ever been punched in the mouth, you remember that. There is no "thinking" involved. You tend to remember that.

Now I admit I am a Red Sox fan, so you have to grade my opinion on a curve.

Oh, and to the post about 'how can someone hate a team', here's my personal side of it. When I actually break it down, it isn't the Yankees themselves I've hated, its about a dozen or so super-jerk Yankee fans that rubbed my nose in it for for 25+ years.

**IMPORTANT** I'm not saying ALL, MOST or MANY Yankee fans. Just the special, over the top jack@sses that kick you when you are down. Year, after year. You develop a chip on the shoulder to say the least.

Okay, this was cheaper than talking to a shrink, I better just sit back now and take my beating for this post... Fire away Yankee fans! 😉
