Well now that I am in Pueblo, Colorado, I am hoping to run into Muddy and anyone on the eastern slope.

One thing you can say about this pass was there weren't any dog rockets in it. Everyone outdid themselves.

Though I could not match the class of this pass, I cannot help but be proud of the generosity of all the BOTL's and have to thank everyone who helped me to survive my first. 🇨🇮

Ok Gamecock I am ashing the number 9 mistery cigar you sent. Upon taking the wrapper off I noticed a pelethora of flavors as I sniffed the unlit cigar. Upon lighting I immediately noticed a flavor I could not put my finger on but by the third puff I have to say it is leathery. The first third was complex and bold. The draw was excellent, and the smoke devine. The ash only makes it to an inch before falling off.it was a 6.5 x54 or so good looking wrapper, I would guess Maduro, and I seem to pick up a floral bouquet somewhere in the background. The aftertaste is pleasant and it burns fairly evenly.

I had to wait a while while I was moving from Cali to Pueblo Colorado. I am feeling my age with that long drive and tweaked my back from sitting too long in one position. I am sitting outside in the front yard at the patio table in a wonderfully cool night and watching the cars go by. Chester the cat is only about 6 feet away enjoying the night time sights that only he can see. There is a local grey cat that comes a visiting about this time of night.

Half way through the cigar and I must admit that this is taking me in a direction I have never been. I do not pick up any earthiness like most maduros, so I have to ask is this a Ligero? I think this would go good with a single malt Irish whiskey, the peat would match it pretty good.

I am probably half an ocean off but I am going to guess it is Nicaraguan. Well what do you expect from a guy who gives Gurkha's to the crew because I do not have a trained palate. After the Las Caliveras memorial, the crew is going to be looking at me funny wondering where I have been hiding the good stuff all these years.

I would say it is a dry smoke for some reason. but no bad aftertaste. I am stumped.

Mystery stick #3

My initial thought when I saw the stick was that it was an A. Fuente 8-5-8 Natural. I’d smoked a few and this one looked just like them; however, it’s not like Fuente holds a patent on the 6x47 parejo vitola so looks could be deciving. At any rate, I finally took the corona gorda out to the garage a couple of nights ago. Nice medium brown wrapper, very good consistent construction, light leathery, woodsy smell. Please note, I’m not any good at figuring out smells and tastes but those were the two that came immediately to mind. Pre-lit draw was light and had a woodsy, earthy taste.

Lit her up and with the first smooth draw, I again thought of the 8-5-8. There’s something about that blend that sticks in my mind. Light but not airy, smooth draw, good volume of smoke. Some earthiness and I guess grassiness (…like I said, I’m not the best at identifying tastes…). The burn was spot on although with the humidity in the air, I did touch it up once in the 2nd third. It was a very enjoyable stick and if I hadda guess at it, I gotta go with my first thought – it’s a 8-5-8 Natural but what is it really?

Smoked my mystery cigar tonight. #14.
Cigar is a deep and I mean deep brown. To me it looks like an Undercrown. Used my trustyv-cutter on it. Cut it once and tried to draw through it and didn't get much pull. So, I cut it again. Lit it up and it was still a little tough to draw. It had a nice flavor to it. Not smooth and silky but kinda dirty. It didn't produce much smoke for the first inch but once I knocked the initial ash off, it produced a fair amount of smoke. Had to keep on the cigar because it wanted to go out.

Flavor was pretty good. Since I was drawing pretty heavy on the cigar and pretty much constantly, it started hitting me like a ton of bricks.

So, not a bad cigar. I would smoke another if the draw was better. The flavor was enjoyable.
