TrannyMK, know where I can get a tranny for a 76 Mustang. The original one eventually gave out and couldn't handle the power I was putting to it. It only has 3rd gear...

Mustang II parts are hard to come by.

Hoping this will jack this thread in a better direction.

Bassdude, thats a good idea for many problems, but not all. First, transmissions and most other systems are too complex in newer cars for this type of site.

I can guarantee you that even if you get some advise from this site, any GOOD shop will start all over again from scratch.

Shops will listen to what you have to say, but cannot trust troublshooting from outside sources. So you arent saving any money buy using the site unless you are lucky and it turns out to be something very simple, that you can do yourself. And believe me the manufacturer has made that nearly impossible.

Cexshun, your transmission is either a C3 or C4.

The C4 model has a bellhousing that comes off very easy. So you can buy a trans(1973 or newer)and if the bellhousing is different you can put the one you have now on it. The only other factor is the shape of the shifter arm on the side if the trans. It must match up. If it doesnt, it can be changed over to the one from your old trans, but the valve body needs to be removed to do that.

If you have a C3 you need one that matches your old trans. On a C3 the bellhousing is part of the pump assy and is too much hassle for the average guy to change over.

If you need more advise, no problem. I can answer anything about those trannys you need to know. Those are easy. Well, I can answer any trans question, but you may not understand the answer, hehe...

Cexshun, I forgot to say that you must get a trans from a V8 model if that's what you have. If the bellhousing is already off of it they all look the same. So be careful. Also install a shift kit into it. You need that for more durability since you have extra HP.

If you are interested I can scan a shiftkit directions and e-mail one to you so you can decide if you can handle that job. Let me know, I dont mind at all...

Yes, it's the V8. I forgot to say its a 76 Mustang Cobra. I'm trying to figure out now if it's worth the cash and time for the tranny work, or if I should just sell it for the body and engine.
