I remember my first posts after lurking for a while. Being a pretty low tech type, I thought the idea of people joining on-line stuff was a bit strange. Eventually I got caught up emotionally on an issue and found myself posting.
Started to find myself checking in more often, then regularly, and my wife teasing me about my "virtual friends" or "little cigar buddies". She'd walk away shaking her head. Rfenster was the first to reach out to me, and I am still indebted to him for several reasons. We came within a few miles of meeting Robert and his wife this Summer, and I am certain we actually will get together one day.
When trades and RAOK started she couldn't believe her husband the anti-computer guy was so involved. And when Edin508's herf happened (at a gun club), she was sure I'd lost my mind and would be killed by some cigar loving cybermaniac.
A year and a half later, she has been out to dinner with Mr. & Mrs. Tailgater and Mr. & Mrs. Fiddler, and she would now consider repeat "dates" with them as normal social behavior of real, not virtual, friends.
And when the shiite does go down and I throw her in the car and head to Ed's sportsmen's club for protection, she won't question why her libtard husband is not anti gun ownership and that Ed is not just a virtual friend!
