Thought about the charity thing. Possibility, but I live a ways away from the closest one I know of, not sure they'd come out here.

Gonna ask my neighbor if he wants to flip it. He could use the money or the truck, and works on cars for side work.

I'm hesitant to pass it on to someone because of how beat it is, but it's in better shape than most of my cars have been when I drop em off at the boneyard. I'm sure someone could get another couple years outta the truck.

Donating a vehicle to charity is only good if you need the deduction, and in most cases, you can only get credit for part of the deduction. It didn't used to be that way, but they changed the tax code a few years back. Donating a vehicle doesn't get you much anymore.

The charities I talked to weren't really that excited to take a vehicle that has little to no value as dismantled parts, and I can't use the deduction anyway. Lucky for me, the Swedish Death Machine has a window in the exhaust manifold and the valves are hurt, so it's smoking and failing on smog, so the state might squeeze it for me for free just to ensure it never pollutes the precious air here again.

Macs, this is the first time ever that I've had truly melt in your mouth meat.

Just pressed on the meat and it was shredded. Didn't need to do anything more. It even breaks apart along the length of the grain with light finger pressure. Could eat this without teeth. Bread is a more effective tool for picking it up than the fork.

That's because you overcooked it a little... but although "overcooked" sounds like you messed up, you can see for yourself that you didn't. It depends on what you want to do with the finished product - and if you're cooking it for you, or for a competition. If you wanted to shred it... it came out perfect. Now if you'd pulled it at 160 like you originally planned it would have been tough.

I cook for me, because I love BBQ. I have, on occasion, purposely overcooked brisket to shred it for "pulled beef" sammiches... and it's damn good. Purists would say I ruined it, but I and the people I cooked for loved it.

My wife prefers brisket sliced, but she doesn't like it smoked. I cook it in the oven for her.

Oh, and if you're planning on doing a lot of BBQ'ing... get these, because they're very handy:

A good set of insulated BBQ gloves is also a good idea.

Never used the meatrakes, but I have something exactly like these and they work quite well.

Honestly, I bought them because they were like $3 at home depot on clearance. Had meat rakes been the $3 clearance at the time, I probably would have bought them.

I've been though 4 different sets of gloves over the years, these are spendy but they are the best I've found hands down:

Thanks guys.

I ate an unhealthy amount of meat today.

Got the head unit installed in my truck. Steering wheel controls integrated, and even control my phone running spotify via bluetooth to the head unit.

Have to pull the dash apart again in a few days because I didn't buy a GM radio antenna adapter. Thought they'd have adopted the standard motorola antenna plug that everyone else in the world uses by now rather than keeping their proprietary connector. But it also gave me an excuse to expand the system already. Bought two amps and a sub.

Sound quality improvement is incredible with just the better head unit. Gotta pull the doors apart for speaker upgrades, but not much energy left after all that pork.

definitely not the way it was a few years back. and now you might get small chunks of deductible amounts as the car is stripped over time. certainly not like when one could take a "book" value all at once.

I guess people were donating worthless dead vehicles but estimating value based on the same car if it actually worked.
