But homebrew is better... much like BBQ which you seam to be willing to wait for, and work for, rather than just buying it.

I've had horrible store bought beers and wines.

Good homebrew is pretty hard to beat.

I've had lots of horrible store bought beers, and far too many of them are old or transport damaged. I probably would be making it myself if I didn't have connections to get my keg filled right off the bright tanks with fresh beer made by a bunch of guys with IBD DBE master brewer certifications, so I just take my keg in to have it filled at the local brewery. No way in hell I could brew better than them.

The wait time for good BBQ is 8-16 hours, though... not MONTHS.

That's kinda my point, too. I have never brewed, and it would likely take far too long for me to become as good at it as the local craft brewers who fill my growler.

To some extent it depends where you live though, Shawn. You and I are kind of spoiled having as many craft breweries around as we do. And it depends what you like. I just want beer flavored beer that I can drink more than one of. If I liked the heavier stuff, I'd probably be brewing it myself, the cost savings are huge.

I dunno... some pretty good craft beers coming from a variety of places. Dogfish Head is in friggin' Maryland, ain't it? Their Palo Santo Marron is badass. Not a fan of much else, though the Midas Touch is good.

And Aftershock's Imperial American Stout is all I like in their whole damn rotation.

I've been hassling Scott, every time I see him, to get more Sudwerk products into our local BevMo. That's one brewery that pretty much everything you sent me was great to fan-furking-tastic. The only thing he ever has is the pilsner, which is good... but not as good as the others.

I think you misunderstood, it's not that good craft brew isn't around, it's just the total number of breweries in CA is quite high compared to other states. IIRC, the last figures I saw for craft brew sales has CA leading at a bit over 10% of all beer sales in the state being craft brew, compared to the national average of like 6%.

I'd like to see a list of Craft Breweries based on how many there are per state. I'd imagine PA is up there.
