She's just trying to get you to spend more money. So trust her here. ALWAYS trust what a woman says. 🤦

I've had the following setup for a little over 6 months with no problems.
50qt igloo
Packed full of cigars
2 blue bead jars
4 bovada 69 rh bags
open every day to get a smoke
Meter always reads 67 to 69 rh
In 6 months plus have not had to change bags or add water to beads yet

Anyone had any experience with gel in their humidor instead of distilled water?

Jeff, it's sort of a trick question. I have used and still use many different things. ALL of them require distilled water.

As many have noted above, beads are a great option and I've got a few pounds of them. They are fairly low maintenance and as Tuck said, they are 2-way; they will absorb moisture if it gets too high and they're not saturated. But, I've had beads get black and moldy, just as I've had other humidifying agents go bad.

Cbid has never sold beads that I'm aware of, so procurement is a little more challenging than adding a bid on a CI gel jar to your cbid purchases. I've got one or two jars of gel that I've had since 2007 or 2008 and they work fine in conjunction with beads. Boveda packs are another great option, but not the cheapest and more work to maintain unless you don't care about the cost and just toss them. One popular method that I recommend you avoid are the humidifiers with green 'florist' foam. Those are 'easy', in that you just add distilled water periodically, but they don't regulate two ways, they can get moldy and I don't feel they do all that great a job of humidifying anyway. Then there's the truly divisive kitty litter option....some love it....some hate it and will ridicule users incessantly, but the KL converts generally swear by it
