I am a huge Rush fan. However, I draw a very hard line around 1980. I cannot listen to Permanent Waves, nor anything that came after. Agree with TG that it all starts to sound the same. But, the first 5 studio albums (or 6?...I'm always a bit torn regarding the somewhat overwrought Hemispheres) and the first live album are tremendous.

I love to hate Bono and most everything U2....However, War should probably be in this discussion. Perfect? Not quite, but pretty close, even despite the heavy handed messaging.

One more album with no soft spots...not on my top 5 of all time, but incredibly solid....Bridge of Sighs

What tour?

Saw them on pre-War for the 1st time...opening band was The Alarm...at a Jai Alai arena in Altamonte Springs. They played "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day"...announced as songs that will be on their upcoming album. LOVED their 1st 2 records too. Saw them on "Unforgettable Fire" at the Silverdome and they made that cavernous 71K seater (minus the field!) sound like a nightclub! They were on fire. Saw them again on "Joshua Tree" and they added to what they had already built. Then the wheels start coming off...Saw ZooTV and was massively disappointed as to how much talking Bono could get away with. Then it was on to the last time..."Pop Mart"...he talked so damned much the band would walk off the stage! Couple that with the pestering tables and vendors everywhere on the concourses and parking lot for Amnesty International, Save The Whales, Greenpeace...etc...I vowed to never go back to another show.

Joshua Tree Tour

I'm no U2 fan... despise them actually... but that was a great concert.

The best and worst concerts I've ever been to were the dead LOL

CTA is one of my favorite albums, but there was strong output right on through VIII. Once I heard "If You Leave Me Now", however....I was done

you took away the greatest part of them?

they were certainly no grand funk railroad

per wiki

By 1971, Grand Funk equaled the Beatles' Shea Stadium attendance record but sold out the venue in just 72 hours whereas the Beatles concert took a couple of weeks to sell out.

My thoughts on Rush Exactly. HUUUGE Rush fan. The 20 years from 1982 to 2002 are very close to unlistenable. And then they made Vapor Trails.

This album (a great one by the way) has always mystified me. I know very few people of a certain age that DON'T have this album and I know even fewer people that don't like it. And yet it gets almost NO airplay on the radio and never really has.
