I actually wish there were statistics on the number of folks who use internet BBSs as their alter egos. I think we'd all be surprised to find out that many people aren't who they appear to be.

I am on the boards who I am in person. I'm too old to trust my memory for creating fictional personna. It'd be too easy to get myself caught in a falsehood. Yet, I've had occasion to meet fellows with whom I'd participated on another board, and was stunned to discover that some of the jerks on the BBS were very fine people in person, while the guys I truly respected in print, were obnoxious in person.

Uh, oh...I just heard the bell for third period. I've got to get to Home Ec.

That's true ... I, for example, used to appear to be younger and thinner ... but then a picture of me got posted ... so long to that illusion ...

Steve*R --- you make some interesting points, but internet BBS's and speaking 'person to person' doesn't offer many guarantees, as you stated ... I've met many people in my life who were just as phony and deceitful in person.

I guess that 'could' be true, if she also possesses a credit card. Not everyone can just hop on the CB forums and start posting away ... LOL!

I would like to believe that most people are inherently honest ... regardless of how they choose to communicate.
