Hockydad,

http://news.sina.com.cn

That's one of my favorites.

Make sure you can read Chinese though, okay?

Comparing the US Airlines to China's airlines is like apples and oranges my friend. Do you realize that the top ten airlines in growth, customer service, revenue, and quality are all Asian? Do you realize that very few US airlines are doing well at all? The number one growing airline industry in the world right now is China. If you disagree with me, I have 7.3 Billion USD in profit with them against 2.5 Billion with US carriers earned last year alone. Yes, I'm in the Aerospace business. Last year I built 3 new facilities in China, including a 4.8 million dollar factory to produce what?......airplanes. Yes, even the planes are going to be built there next instead of just Everett Washington. We're also building a new airframe starting this year in joint ventures with Korea and also Japan.

This is not the China of last year, and to say that you won't see anything dealing with the square in Beijing is hogwash. There will be a candlelight memorial on Thursday that is expected to draw over a million attendees......I'll be there.

"nuff said, the beach is calling my name. I had two good wreck dives today, and a bottle of Sangtip whiskey is awaiting me.

Adroomi,

Once we're settled in Guam we'll have to invite you over so Clive can have a dive partner! LOL Maybe show him the ropes on how to wreck dive since he's been buying a lot of books on that very subject! *sorry for a bit of threadjacking*

Maven, as usual you put words in my mouth, then argued

with what i didn't say. I tried agian to simlify my point, but you were still argueing with your self(and searing at me). So for the third time- There is no comparison between the two events. Oh, I wouldn't hold your breath on getting smart like me.

Adroomi,

Have you ever noticed that you get a bit defensive about anything related to China? I'm not challenging your status as preeminent China expert so I don't think it is necessary for you to declare that I know little or nothing about China. Many people around the world know things about China. You did not discover China and it is OK to share.

I took a look at the website you posted and found their English translation page since that was quicker than running translation software and I do not read Chinese.

http://english.sina.com/

It looks like my statement was correct. There is no mention of Tianamen Square or any candlelight memorial.

Here's a couple of other sites in English translation.

http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/home/index.html

They seem to have something in common. All have absolutely no mention of Tianamen Square and the "counterrevolutionary riot".

You imply that you'll be a Tianamen Square Masacre candlelight memorial in Beijing that will draw a million people. Just as a point of clairification, is that exactly true?

I am aware of an upcoming candlelight memorial in Beijing. It is for Aids Day. It is permitted by the government and very well may draw quite a huge crowd. Is this the candlelight memorial you are referring to that you'll be at?

There is nothing wrong with comparing US airlines to Chinese airlines, there just are differences. For example, US airlines are not partially government owned. US airlines have been in existance for a much longer period of time and have well established fleets. Chinese airlines are new and still establishing their fleets, hence the growth you speak of and the profits you speak of. Selling aircraft in the US (and Europe) is replacement cycle based, not green-field sales. Your company focuses on both, not one over the other. When your green-field sales in China are done it will switch to replacement cycle and you'll move on looking for more green fields until there are none left.

Airlines in the US are struggling because they're having a hard time adjusting to the fact that air travel has become a simple commodity and that airlines do not provide any value addition. This has rendered customer service and quality as obsolete. Passengers buy the cheapest ticket regardless. Airlines that are financially successful simply realized this before the "Big Six". As a frequent business traveler, I don't necessarily like the direction the industry headed but the "Big Six" predatory pricing against business travelers helped accelerate the process.

The same process in happening in Europe. The only question now is will it hit the Middle East and Asia next. Government ownership of the airlines could prevent the trend through back-door subsidies on international travel routes but it won't be cheap.

Now seriously, was there anything I originally posted about China that was factually incorrect that caused you to lash out at me or did I just offend you by mentioning anything about China and stepping on your turf? For whatever reason, sometimes you exaggerate just a wee bit about China and sometimes maybe you even make stuff up. Remember the one about how the Chinese liked the Bradley Fighting Vehicle so much they bought the company?

Hockeydad,

Bravo!

Adroomi, I love your posts, but you get so caught up in trying to convince us of your Asian knowledge that you oftentimes sound like an buffoon. I don't think you are a buffoon, simply that you can sound like one.

You state your predictions as if they're fact. Truth is, they're merely predictions.

Statistics can be manupulated any way one sees fit to make a point. It's borish when taken out of context.

China will indeed be a world power. It's sheer size demands it. But today they are still a Communist Government, and their "freedoms" are handpicked. They don't have a RIGHT to their freedom, they simply are ALLOWED to have them.

Without a true democracy, what happens when their next leader takes the reigns? What if he wants to close up the "walls" and remove what little freedom they have?

I'm not suggesting that they will. Simply that they could. And that's a huge difference between China and the US that you fail to recognize.

You say China is great because of their growth. I say we're great because of our freedom.

And I'll pick freedom over growth any day.

For the record, I hope they do have a candlelight vigil. The educated Chinese people recognize what those students did, regardless of what their government wants to call it.

"Kent state=tiananmen square?"

in both cases the deaths of civilians was directly caused by their own government acting against protesters.

how do they differ?

please note, no vulgarity or personal insult.

Rick,

If you accidentally ran someone over, would that be the same as running them down with your car on purpose?

maven, when T. square was happening i was in the middle of a 40 day field problem so I don't remenber all the details. According to Adroomi, thousands died and thousands were imprisoned. The chinese government at the highest levels ordered them killed and rounded up the survivors(this is how I am reading adroomi's post). At kent state, 4 were killed, ) were rounded up afterwards. In you post that "proved" how criminally the gaurd behaved you piont out that the students were shot at distances of 60 to 750 ft. So you believe that they were aiming at people at all these different ranges and hitting them? Or did they panic and fire into a crowd? I think it's another case of 2 legs good 4 legs bad. It was a tragedy. They the events are not equivalents. So "not only are you wrong, you are wrong at the top of your lungs".

Way to Adroomi.....so you pointed out that China has alot of people in it. Tell us something that we dont know. Hell all i have to do is look at the NBA All-Star voting results from last year. Yao Ming was the #1 vote getter by a large margin....why do you think that is? Because he's the best player? Not even close....IT'S BECAUSE THEY DONT KNOW WHAT CONDOMS ARE IN THAT COUNTRY!LMAO!!!!

It's the typical Adroomi...defend anyone but your own country that has provided you the chance to be who you are. Try not to forget that.

And Rick.....i was the armorer in my battery for 3 years. I fired the M-16 many, many times. Trust me when i say this. If i was firing my weapon for 14 seconds that day, ALOT more people would have died.

Take that how you will.

The closest student shot was fully sixty feet away; all but one were more than 100 feet away; all but two were more than 200 feet away. One of the dead was 255 feet away; the rest were 300 to 400 feet away. The most distant student shot was more than 700 feet from the Guardsmen.

60ft.=20yds. you could shoot a target with your eyes closed from here.

100ft.=33yds. you hardly have to aim to hit a target from here.

200ft.=66yds. Put an M-16 in anyones hands at this distance and they are going to hit it 8 out of 10 times

300ft.=100yds. could be a tough shot if moving.

400ft.=133yds. easy shot if target is still.

700ft.=233yds. troops are trained to shoot at targets 300yds away. This is not a hard shot.
