To one of TW's points above, about the only reason I look at the Politics section here is I like to challenge my beliefs with those who think differently. ... If you don't deeply question your own beliefs, you're doing yourself a disservice, IMO.

yes...and trying to ignore the false thinking traps of: listening to only one source of information; looking at who is saying what before hearing what is said; disregarding info based on the source without actually looking at it; and forming beliefs based on that.

News can come from sources on all sides of the political spectrum...but one shouldn't equate news with fact.

Though people may choose the middle, I suspect they'll lean one way or another, or wait to see who is winning and jump on the wagon.

Yes, exactly like that, in all honesty. I was talking in an aspirational sense...we SHOULD look at info, dissect it, check it's validity before dismissing or agreeing with it...it's too easy to dismiss or eat up info out of hand...too lazy intellectually, but we all do it, at times.

It's because we have pretty much arrived at our sense of values, biases, prejudices and know which information sources to get affirmation from by this point in our lives. I remember when you and I were among the few on here who praised Al Jazeera News when it came on the scene. That's an example of intellectual curiosity that I'm trying to describe. It's like I know what I like and who gives me what I like, but I gotta keep growing and check out different stuff.

My wife likes to point out that I do the same thing I yell at other drivers for doing. 🤦

So yes, I believe we're all guilty of at least a bit of hypocrisy. Sucks to have to admit it, though.

Decent points.

My lefty friends think I'm more or less the same. My righty friends think I'm practically a Hillary supporter. So if I take all of that in and look at the data, I guess I've moved a shade to the left.

I don't mind listening to left leaning sites or radio. Have been listening to Wisconsin and National Public Radio for five or six years. I can't listen to the far left. Nor the far right.

I've just fired my once favoriate podcast- Marketplace. Always knew the guy was slightly to the left, but went nuts and continues to go off on Trump (lazy targeting) and spent one full episode on all the liberal side of every argument. Simply put, white, straight males are the enemy and they need to be neutralized or removed.

I'd love to find two podcasts, one on just the right, and one to the left of center and hear two reasonable people explaining their persepctive.

I don't play dungeons and dragons- so I don't care to hear 16 sides of the issue and agreeing with all of them. Nor, do I have the heart, stomach or ear to listen to our reisdent higher pitched Rachel Maddow wannaboy.

Anything too close to regurgitation of MSNBC talking points, I have no stomach for.
