No morphine drip or catheter this time... Experimented with a few pain meds till we found a good cocktail.. funny how nurses have different outlooks on them. Last night my nurse went out of her way trying to ease the pain. The nurse today acts like I don't need them and has made me wait almost an hour after requesting them... Then had to come interview me before she went to get them... Asked her to change my bandages cause they were leaking last night... She thought they'd be ok till tomorrow.. I insisted and she finally agreed.. prolly won't get anymore pain meds from her now... 😟

With the increased government scrutiny on narcotic use, most surgeries are no longer approved for PCA use. There's also increased scrutiny on inpatient oral narcotics, we have to justify their use over non narcotic with every dose given.

Also many surgeons prefer bandages not changed except by the surgeon or their partner.

Had rotator cuff surgery a few years ago. The physical therapy afterwards was a key component of getting my range of motion back.

Did the surgery in the morning and went back to the hotel in Hono the same night. It was a surreal scene. I was still kind of out of it, and I was sitting outside the hospital with a big bandage on my shoulder and my shirt just draped over... waiting on a cab. They gave me oxycodone, as I recall. Not long after I took it back at the hotel, I started hearing voices in the dark. Didn't sleep that night. And didn't take anymore. 🙂

Glad to hear everything went well........now you gotta do the PT and you'll be running marathons soon........why anyone would want to run 26.2 miles is beyond the scope of my imagination

No more running, football, baseball, basketball, tennis, racquetball, soccer or any other activity that involves potential physical contact, running, jumping, sudden stops and starts and change of direction...puts too much stress on the artificial joint and its attachment to the bones... lotsa walking, hiking, cycling, swimming, fishing, hunting are good...

Primary benefits for having the knee replaced are pain relief, sleep w/o pain, reduction in the amount of nsaids consumed which helps keep the liver and kidneys healthy, and the ability to do non-contact activities that were impossible or too painful with the bad knee...

Damn... I didn't have too much of a problem this time.. I stayed two nights and was able to go before I left... Wasn't on the morphine this time tho... A few days on that stuff results trying to chit wet sand.. 😟

Glad you are on the mend. Work your new joint as hard as you can. You will thank yourself five years down the road.
