Booked our San Diego vacation.

Will be staying at Paradise Point in Mission Bay.

Cars don't seem too welcome most of the places I looked at. Our hotel was $40/night to park. I didn't rent a car. Looks like most of what we want to do and see is within a 5 mile radius from the hotel.

This will be the first time I've seen an ocean up close.

No I think it's the imitation Vietnamese, real Vietnamese is to costly and very unhealthy due to all the starch in them from the noodles and rice. The imitation is flavored fake Vietnamese but with vitamins and iodine added but it makes you not feel so well. [gonzo]

Mission Bay is pretty cool. Sea World is right on it, in fact. Not far from the gaslamp quarter, or Petco.

You can rent bikes, boogie boards, sailboats, etc right on Mission Bay. IIRC you can see fireworks every night from your resort property that go off from Sea World nearby.

San Diego sounds nice.

In central Florida, we rarely see ice if ever and our coldest nights have no precipitation. However the biggest problem is if we get temps below 30, the palms and tropical vegetation freeze. Damage can be expensive and long lasting. Further south coconut palms are more sensitive and freeze their nuts off below 50. If it gets below 60 in Key West, they close the schools because kids don't own coats.

Lmao Needy arse kids, and people like me sit around and wonder why people are growing up to be a bunch of puzzies. Next thing you know they going to shut schools down because it is sunny outside and kids don't own Mickey Mouse and Pocahontas sunglasses. Below 60 Really, or did you just forget the [sarcasm] ?

I mean I get cold bad when it's down in the 30s and no coat and on coumadin but 50s is a cakewalk. I'm just off my rocker I guess.

God help them lil bastids if they had to walk to school uphill both ways with hand me down wholey shoes and no socks. No choice to go because they on the free lunch program and its the only way they can eat that day. [gonzo]

First week of February, wife's birthday. Mother in law gonna watch the boy, brother in law staying at our house to keep the animals alive.

It'll be wife and my first trip together alone in close to a decade. We did a couple small trips in 04-08 but anything overnight since then has been with the kid. We did go to Florida for a weekend without the boy in 2012 but stayed with my race team and she was not happy.

When I was shopping around, there was so much variation in pricing, it made no sense. Initially I had all 3 of us, and we could go for about 1400 for a weekend. Could actually get it down to 1200 for 3 nights, but had to fly Spirit Airlines... Dropped it to 2 of us and the price went up. Did some more shuffling around, and got 5 nights and airfare for 1500.

I think it will be nice. Kinda nervous about going to a big city, and going somewhere without a car. But I'm assuming there's plenty options for public transport that will cost me less than a rental and parking. Would be about $60-70 a day for a Nissan Versa or Mitsubishi Mirage not including parking at destination. I'd just about rather walk than drive either of those.

It'll be wife's second time to the west coast. My first time really west of the Mississippi (went to Missouri in 94 and 2004)

I'm pretty excited.
