That being said my 12 years as a law enforcement officer has taught me many things. People who seek to carry out nefarious acts aren't going to be stopped with enactment of more laws. Our law enforcement community has buried 6 officers in recent history, two of whom I knew very well. In none of those cases any ideas being put forward would have saved their lives. So what do we do? Actually the answer is quite simple. Put teeth in existing laws. There is a particular judge in our community who has a proclivity to let thugs back onto the streets rather than incarcerate them. In one case, a thug was arrested on weapons charges. Her commissioner set bail at $88,000. Without conducting a hearing as required by law, she reduced his bond to $9000 dollars. He bonded out and shortly afterwards he killed a local law enforcement officer. We have another judge who signs search warrants. Then when the subject is arrested on the warrant she signs, she no pc's the warrant she signed letting that thug back on the street. Unfortunately, there are judges like them in every jurisdiction.
We need to put violent thugs in jail and let their asses rot there. Nothing makes more impact on them than throwing a few of them away for life.
We also need to repeal laws which make otherwise turn law-abiding citizens into felons. I've seen way to many lives ruined by convictions of gun laws which serve no real purpose. That is why I'm dead set against more firearms laws that are pure nonsense. Neither I nor any other person be held criminally liable because some useless POS breaks into their home and steals a legally owned firearm.
