I just looked some of these up.

This Carolina Reaper is rated at 2,200,000 shu. The extract sauce I used to mess with was only 1,300,000 shu, and one drop of that would have you sweeting profusely and your heart beating out of your chest. No wonder this guy went to the hospital. Even in my chili head days, I wasn't nuts enough to try something this hot.

In comparison, the notorious Ghost pepper ranks #7 at just over 1,000,000 shu.

There are rumors of a brand new pepper, currently referred to as "pepper X" that is claiming over 4,000,000 shu, but has yet to be verified.

Just to put all of this into perspective, the Jalapeno rates from 2,500 to 10,000 shu, making the Carolina Reaper 220 times hotter then the hottest Jalapeno.

Yes, I still have a little of the ground Red Savina left. It is rated at 500,000 SU. A fireman from Indiana used to grow and sell chili as a side business and the Red Savina was one of his trade marked peppers. I just went to his web site, and it looks like he is only doing hot sauces now. No more ground chili. Bummer.

Maybe a nurse from Indiana should pickup the fireman's slack.

Every pepper I've grown here has done very well with large harvests. Maybe I should seek out these exotic chilies and give em a try.

Dunno how good I'd be at selling em, since I won't try the product. My habaneros are hot enough for me

Grew my own Ghost peppers last year. Plan on doing it again here in NC. I found the ones I grew last year to be milder than what I expected, but they still packed a punch. I roasted them and added to my BBQ sauce. It was fantastic.

I've found peppers need new dirt every year.. planting in a completely different place is best... Cross-pollinated some bell pepper with jalapenos one year accidentally.. they were great.. 😟

I used to roll around in bed at three AM after eating insanely hot stuff and then the fire chits came. Those were glorious after dealing with insane stomach pains.

Now I just stick to the weak stuff like Habaneros.

I was having a hard time getting my hot peppers hot last year... i read that hot peppers need to go completely dry before watering again in order to achieve a good heat.... i started doing that and the heat definitely increased...

This year, growing jalapenos for fresh use and habanero and cayenne to dry and grind...

We're growing a lot of pablano, pasilla, and Anaheims for stuffing, but those don't really count as "hot"...

And growing a lot of California wonders... nothing like a fresh green bell pepper...

What's your understanding of cross- pollination? I've heard 2 different explanations...

One (like on the back of ferry morse seed packets) warns that growing hot and sweet peppers too closely together will result in hot sweet peppers and sweet hot peppers...

But the other thing I've heard is that this is wrong, cross pollination only affects the seeds of the fruit.... so if you grow the seeds from your peppers, then you might get hot sweet peppers and vice versa, but it won't affect (affect or effect? I've forgotten how to use these words) the current crop....

I can comfortably eat up to about 500k SHU sauces on stuff, any more than that makes it un-enjoyable.
