Right timeframe for you and I to have “met” back then.. Iffin’ early ‘83 then it coulda been the last of the top-loading ones. SL-5800, built like a tank (...or battleship for you Navy boys...). Wired remote, variable scan speed but super solid. Maybe one of the best VCRs Sony ever made. I had one until I upgraded to the SL-HF750 around ‘87 or ‘88. If not the 5800 then maybe the 5000, the base front-loading model, silver case, wired remote.

Man, how do I remember stuff like that but can’t recall what I had for lunch yesterday? 🌫

A friend of mine that does estate sales brought up pre-recorded VCR tapes couple of weeks ago and said that the value of them was beginning to rise. I had a box of blank BETA tapes downstairs for years- not sure if I sold them or threw them out. I do have a few dozen pre-recorded VCR tapes.

Boy...thundergerbil is a VCR historian expert....
Palma and whistlebritches too...

I can remember buying great Sony Beta supermaxs's
"That fell off the back of the truck" in Bayonne, NJ all the time....
For $50 -$75 bucks brand new in the box ( That were selling at crazy eddies and SILO FOR $399...) right at the height of the Beta vs VHS WARS....sold them back in Lancaster or Ohio for profit.

I still have 4 VHS PLAYERS...MOSTLY the VHS & DVD
COMBOS...they all work great...I buy some VHS if I never saw that movie for a quarter nowadays...flea markets auctions have tons of them.

#1 ^^^ OP

DONT FALL FOR THAT $MILLION DOLLAR RARE VHS DISNEY TAPES T.R.A.P. !!!

EBAY IS FILLED WITH SCAMMERS TRYING TO STEAL UR MONEY...#6 IS correct ...go to "the completed sales" filter historical sold units data listing...

Anyone can "ask" any price they want on EBAY...AND THEY TRY TO SNAG RICH DUMB GULLIBLE IDIOTS into buying their fake rare Disney at truly crazy prices...
Some idiots pay that price then complain but the scammers set up shop again under different names and accounts.

TW paid a handsome price for a VHS collection I sold him awhile back, but it wasn’t anything I’d ever list on the Bay.

After my son decided to stick his peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the VCR I trashed all the tapes and never looked back.
