Nonsense... The teachers may have wanted to be famous (seems.... Unlikely) but even then, one doesn't become famous from developing a math teaching method which you cannot defend as theoretically easier to learn or in some way making the students better than the generation before. There has to be a rationale which makes sense to enough people for it to become implemented, otherwise you're just a crazy dude in his basement.
There appears to be some debate as to whether common core is as ridiculous as people like to believe it is... I don't know the answer either way.
I do know I don't have a problem with kids learning integers and whatnot alongside learning to wash their hands.... We coddle children too much anyway. How are they going to work in my donut mines by 12 if they don't have the appropriate training????
