other than a box or two per year of Cubans I very rarely buy cigars on line anymore, but I continue to routinely monitor a few sites.

So the other evening on the scary/well known site, I saw a fiver of Diesel Whiskey Row robs for $21 with freight (not the sherry cask)...though I wasn't interested I looked at a few reviews cuz I see so many people smoke this brand. I may have had a couple of others from them over the years, don't recall enjoying them much, but don't remember hating either.

Reviews seemed to align with stuff I currently enjoy and most said medium strength, but I passed and kept scrolling. On page two the same cigar brand and size was listed as a "promo10"...10 of the robs for $23 shipped (and tax)..
I ordered them, then quickly emailed customer service to make sure it was 10 of the same cigar...the description could have been taken two different ways, one as a mixed sampler of robustos from Diesel, the other stating sampler consists of 2 five packs of whiskey row robustos.

CS confirmed the next morning, both via email and on the phone.

so 10 Diesel Whiskey Row robustos for $23.35 with shipping and tax (PA sites have been charging me tax the last couple of orders).
You guys go through a lot of Diesels, did I get the standard deal or stumble on a winner?
Either way, hope I like them, if not I can move them out at a very short loss on my investment

Ordered a cabinet of Warped Lirio Rojo for $375, thought that seemed a good deal with all the hype going around. I've never actually had any of the Warped cigars but have been hearing lots of good things and the size-format of these appealed to me.

How's this for a deal? This is at the main CI site:

40 - Oliva Serie V Maduro Double Robustos (5x54)
2 - Montecristo Espada Guard (6" x 50)
2 - Romeo 505 Nicaraguan by Romeo y Julieta Toro (6" x 52)
1 - Vertigo 60-ring cutter
1 - Palio triple torch lighter
1 - Metal U-shaped cigar rest
4 x $20 CI Bucks cards

Price: $139.96
Net Price: $59.96 (after subtracting the $80 Bucks cards' value)

Net price per stick: $59.96 / 44 cigars = $1.36 per cigar, plus free accessories, free-shipped.

How to do? Put four of the "10-pack plus $20 Bucks card" Oliva V Maduros in your cart, that's $44.99 x 4 = $179.96, free shipping kicks in because that's over $150, now apply code ONYX for $40 off orders over $150 which brings it down to $139.96, then also apply code VAYCAY for the free extra 4 cigars and the free accessories. Because four $20 Bucks cards are in the box, it brings the final net price down to $59.96 free-shipped.

I'll bet you will never, ever see net pricing like this on Oliva Serie V Maduro 5x54s, especially not with a decent package of bonus cigars and accessories thrown on top!

Enjoy! And, you're welcome! 🇨🇮

I've seen indications that the Diesel / Man O' War stuff is indeed still made by AJ's factory. Several times CI has outright and clearly said so, in newly-written blocks of text (e.g. for brand-new deals or products), not just "initially blended by AJ" but "made by AJ in his factory" and such.

So, not sure who or what to believe. CI's phone people are PA-based and super friendly (one time I got on a 20-minute tangent with a CI phone rep debating which PA pizza places are best, that was great). So I suppose one/some of us can just call and ask if AJ still is actually making these lines.

Regardless, I haven't gotten any bad ones, even recent ones, although I haven't bought any super-recently (last 6 months or so), if I remember right.

You're right about that. Inflation is a b!tch. So glad I bought a schitt-ton of cigars years ago back when prices were much lower, and still have like 95% of them. Woohoo! 🇨🇮

I'd encourage everyone to use the same technique now, to avoid doubled prices (and bans, and dumbed-down FDA-cleared weak blends, etc. etc.) years from now.

As for $2 good cigars, I said it before and I'll say it again, try the 601 Steel by Erik Espinosa. The "very well-known" cigar shop and their discount "scary" site frequently has them for about $2 each after using one of the standing 17%/20% discount codes. They're fine, upstanding Nicaraguans, medium-full, great draw, great flavors, quite enjoyable and well-behaved burn-wise, for cheap.

I like the steel, and it is a good cigar, but last month (before the 601 thread was posted), I won a couple dozen 601 Greens here for 1.50, and a dozen 601 reds for a buck. The 601 thread put an end to that. But over the past few weeks, I've won over 200 of my regulars here for a buck each. I'm not saying what they are, as the bids will go up but they are decent everyday smokes that go for up to $3 - $4 each during the Spring and Summer. And no, they are not Gurhkas, Diesels, Padillas, RPs, ADs or any of the mother ship's long line of yard gars.

Oh, sure, 601 Steel and even better cigars than that can be found for cheaper (like my recent find of $1.36 each net price Oliva Serie V Maduros with free ship and bonus accessories too), and I regularly get deals like you describe, but that's generally with a lot of effort, patience, time spent monitoring sites and promo codes, waiting for auctions to end, and quite a bit of specialized knowledge. The average guy isn't willing to do all that, so I can't recommend it to a general audience.

I'm talking deals that an average guy can do easily without that sort of hassle (e.g. go to "scary site", click click, done). I recommend that, and the $2-ish prices involved, for the average guy.

Also, if you think Diesels are yard gars, you haven't aged them for a long time. Some of them turn into amazing sticks after several years.

Now they've also activated promo code BUMPTRAY, which gets you a nice ceramic 4-rest, raised-on-feet ashtray with Alec Bradley logo and abstract artwork all over the sides of it, for free.

BUMPTRAY can be stacked on top of the codes above, believe it or not, resulting in all the goodness you see above PLUS the ashtray, making the deal quite a bit better.

Just FYI.

Bought myself Christmas this year, here at cbid.
A hand full of various singles/fivers of cigars I’ve been wanting to try, a cob pipe, etc.
Best scores were
A cbid Quickie T-shirt................$1..............this will probably go to BIL.
FOUR 4oz tins of Plum Pudding Special Reserve at $11/ea......................Could be my best cbid score ever.

I'd recommend that, yeah. It might be the same blend but shipped younger recently. Happily, on the end user side, "bury and forget about" fixes that problem, eventually.

Just speculating here though. I have no idea what really happened behind the scenes.

However, you already own the things, so if it's a choice between (1) smoke them now and not enjoy them, (2) throw them out or (3) let them age as an experiment, there's no downside to doing #3.

FYI, got the Alec Bradley "Baby Bump" ashtray today. It's very nice! Quite a good free bonus item.

Big, nice design, stands a good height off the table thanks to four large bump-shaped (hence the name) "feet" with anti-scratch rubber pads on their bottoms. You can put cutters, lighers, etc. under the tray due to this clearance, so it doesn't kill any "footprint space" on your table. Great idea!

It has interesting and pretty cool hand-drawn brand-related artwork, done in a bold red and dark black contasting with the white ceramic. The art is printed excellently (great colors and contrast) and it wraps completely around the outer side of the whole ashtray, including following the contours of the "bump legs" down to cover them too, and I can't tell where the "seam" is, the print looks continuous. Nicely done!

Gonna try to get me another free one when I put another order in tomorrow, if the gift card sale and ashtray promo are still active! Keeping my fingers crossed!

People have mixed feelings about these from the reviews I have seen but I just got 2 boxes of 10x Montecristo by AJ Fernandez Churchill (love this guys stuff) for $80 shipped that also included some Montecristo Buena Fortuna I never had.

For me it is a personal score because I got two of these in a sample pack when I first got into cigars a year ago and smoked one with my neighbor and it was love at first puff for us both. Haven't bought them again until now because the stars never aligned to get a deal of $3 per cigar I try to limit myself to but this Christmas the stars aligned. (yeah I am a cheap a$$)
