I average 4.8 hours/day according to my fitbit watch thing. Occasionally get a ringer where I sleep 14-16 hours straight though.
I really don't ever know what day it is or if it's morning or night without clear outside cues.
The first half of the last 20 years I had a great job. Dropped out of high school in 2001, got a job in a hinge factory and was making $16/hr doing relatively unskilled labor. After about a year I got moved up to more skilled work and got $18/hr. But I had aspirations of going to college, and had to take a cut to work in the shipping dept part time for $14/hr but pretty much just worked whenever I showed up. But I was in college before my high school class graduated. Got kicked outta my parents house when I turned 18, lived in my car for a while, kept working and going to school, and eventually found a cheap rental place to stay. After a few years undergrad biochemistry major, I got drunk and jumped my motorcycle over a ditch near my house which I'd done a hundred times before. Landed wrong, in a parking lot, no helmet, straight into a parking curb. Had a brain bleed and got dropped off at the hospital. Long story short I couldn't get back into the school stuff afterwards. Everything was lost. Went back to work but at the higher pay grade for the skilled labor. They denied a weekend off for my racetrack weekend, so I quit because racecar.
Got a new job as a pressure washer mechanic, and after a year I also reapplied to college to finish what I started, or at least something close to it. Advisor told me to try nursing. He must've been getting some kickbacks from nursing department cause I'm not so good with people. Was getting $25/hr with fully paid benefits and 5% matched 401k as a mechanic and LOVED my job. Very flexible hours, traveled all over the Lake Michigan region, and pretty much had unlimited time off (unpaid) and just had a job list I had to complete for the week and could do it however I wanted to do it. They gave me a truck, and inventory, I had to bring my own tools. Kept that up for 3-4 years while going to school full time and doing clinical rotations full time. Also had two side jobs through it all. One as a janitor, another as a nurses aide.
Graduated, got a job as a nurse and was promptly fired 2 hours into my first shift. "cutbacks" took 70 of us outta the hospital that day.
Got another nurse job for $19/hr and stuck with it till this day, though there's been raises.
I really should've just stuck with the factory or the mechanic job. Would've been much farther ahead today than I am now. Instead I'm just drunk, broke, and working myself to death.
