FYI, the new Rams are ****. No headroom, tons of problems at 150k miles, should be able to go at least 250-300k without any major repair.

While a new one would be a contender, I really REALLY like their interiors, especially on higher trim levels, the long term reliability of the vehicle is a concern. I'm looking to buy something I'll use for 10+ years.
My father in law bought a 2010ish Ram 3500 dually for a shop truck and while the drivetrain has been reliable to nearly 300k with one tranny replacement around 180k, he goes through a set of wheel bearings every 18 months or so. Has had issues with electronics like switches and such for a long time. Mirrors my experience with my Dakota too. Long-term wear items seem to go sooner than they should.
My cousin had a diesel Ram 2500 06ish and had loads of problems with wheel bearings, transfer case, electronics.
A coworker had a diesel Ram 3500 and complained about balljoints, wheel bearings, and the trans gave out around 100k.
Another friend uses gas Ram 2500's at work and loves them, but they cycle them out at 5 years.
All anecdotal I know. But all my friends with Ford 3/4 and 1 tons have had much better overall things to say about their trucks, though the accommodations are more spartan. One buddy pulled the powerstroke and dropped in an old Cummins and a 5 speed with 300k on the chassis and is now in the 700k mile range and still loves the truck. Another friend with a powerstroke has only done regular wear items over 10 years and nearly a half million miles on the clock when he sold it and bought a Duramax. I know a handful of people with Duramax trucks and they mirror the Ford dudes, but only one of them tows heavy. Really only hear major complaints myself from Ram owners - but not about the powertrain.
I do REALLY like the giant megacab Rams. So much interior space. But the crew cab across all three is plenty roomy.
I've not excluded Ram from my search, as I'd hope they've sorted out the bearing issues. But electrical problems have plagued Mopar trucks since the 90's and I don't know that they're sorted yet for long term ownership. Maybe I need to reconsider long term ownership..
