Slim,

There is nothing anyone can say to make you feel better. I have put two dogs down in three years. Each has broken my heart and I have cried. I am fireman, 270lbs, spent many 11yrs US Army and am here to tell ya it is ok to feel the way you do. It is ok to Mourn. Animals are so vulnerable, service to another breeds love, and when you make the choice to stop their suffering, even though it is the right choice, nothing can fill that void but time. you will be ok. You are first class, have always treated me kingly, and I know you love your pets/friends. Trust that many people here think you are a great man.

I'm right around the corner from having to put down my wife's old 13 year old dog. She still has a few good days every now and then so I'll let her tell me when it's time.

Go ahead and cry all you want Slim. Since I lost my wife, I've learned not to be embarrased. Most of the time I couldn't stop it anyway. I just hate when the guy with the mop follows me around the grocery store.

It took 5 and 1/2 weeks of crying in disbelief. Now I cry because I realize she's gone and I have to learn to accept that. I completely understand the attachment to pets, I too have a herd of birds(about 40 breeders), 4 as pets and 2 large dogs.

Let yourself feel all the emotions of loss Slim. It's the only way to keep things moving forward and it's the natural thing to do. Let yourself grieve, it's important.
