But someone else paying your restitution doesn't really meet the courts intended requirements does it... it's like letting someone else do your time... 😟

Restitution is not a penalty. It's payment of damages required by a criminal court as opposed to a civil court. Same thing, different name.

Restitution for murder, what the price for life taken. No vote ever sounds equal.

Interesting thread, there are many assumptions being offered here. This is down and dirty politics. You are missing the only assumption that matters legally. Innocent untill proven guilty. Bloomberg's actions are not breaking any law.

So I will play the devils advocate. Robert, on a percentage basis far more black people are convicted of a felony than white people are. Mr Bloomberg is simply trying to right that wrong when it comes to voting. He is only paying for black people because he wants to right a wrong that cultural bias has created. What law is he breaking?

Note, I do not believe any of what I just said. I am simply trying to point out that there is no way to disprove what I just said. Also I do not think any laws were broken in that scenario.

I haven't seen anywhere the distinction that Blumberg was only paying black ex-felons' debts.

No, no, I was just choosing a non existant scenario. Even in one so extreme I would see no way to prove a law had been broken. Plus it might be the Percocet talking.

both are fruits...

just as both gifts of money are attempts to buy votes...

if Trump wasn't pandering for votes, why did he wait three years to send desperately needed money to Puerto Rico, during which time people suffered and died...

why wait until a month and a half before his re-election?

the reality is that Trump is such a disliked person among Puerto Rican voters (73% disapproval), they're gonna take the money and give him a finger in return

and who knows how many former criminals, stout citizens the lot, will bother to exercise their franchise?

They are idiots. They also should have gone to court and gotten an Emergency Temporary Protection Order. That would stop what Blumberg is doing at least for a couple days. Once in court, it can quickly move it to Florida's supreme court, where the sate will likely prevail.

I wonder if they can get a no-knock warrant for Bloomberg and arrest him.

his front door would be too sturdy to ram open...

he prolly has a CCTV system so he can see who's at the door...

his bodyguards prolly know all the officers on the force...

if not, he prolly has an escape hatch in his basement
