RR, you're just a conservative playing coy, trying to appear libertarianish, because you lack the courage to say you've picked a side.

Someone who is truly apart from our political reality would have just as many criticisms of the codswallop that the right issues, and yet you have focused all of your fire and pointedly picked on people you've labelled "progressives" here. You hint occasionally that cons are also part of the problem in America that keeps individuals from true "liberty", yet you won't say what that is, nor call out anyone who expresses support for Trump, the GOP, or conservatism. So it is just a masquerade...you're a true con to the core who is too afraid to say so...

The reality is that like Rand Paul, who claims to be a Libertarian, and yet votes and speaks like a con, people like you are mostly irrelevant and powerless in the USA. In order to gain some sense of belonging and influence, people like Paul are forced to choose sides, and he usually sides with the cons. There are several like you here, who say they are not cons, claim they are libertarians, don't register as GOP, but embrace the con perspectives, are anti -left, and usually vote with the GOP. Unlike you, however, they are likable and often able to laugh at themselves as well as at the progressives.

The reality is that we've become a society with a history of two political parties, each at times embracing conservatism and liberalism/progressivism, and occasionally switching. But those are the real distinctive polars. I'm not sure if there are enough people who are fed up with those two choices to move the political discourse beyond left and right. I am certain that they would not come to any sort of consensus if the numbers reach a tipping point, because of the nature of individualism. You're just railing against the wind...

You guys just don't get it. You've got to pick your enemies one at a time. Your Democrat Socialists just happen to be the most evil threat to civilization there is, both historically and at present. Add to them the neoconservatives, (the fake conservatives) ain't much difference there, they are enamoured with the centralized warfare-welfare state too, the strongman leader President who claims to have a mandate from the people to do whatever he damn well wants, the war hawks in pursuit of empire with interventionist foreign policies, also interventionist policies at home and expanding government power. Think of the George W. Bush administration as the most recent model of the solidly neocon administration. Think of the Obama administration are the most recent model of a Democrat Socialist regime. Progressives all the same, just like chocolate and vanilla ice cream, different flavors, but still ice cream.

Just saw this speaking of neocons: Lincoln Project Orders Left-Wing Mob to Harass and Threaten Trump’s Legal Team in Pennsylvania

Yep, the progressive right and the progressive left—two peas in a pod.😉

Sen. Rand Paul like Rep. Thomas Massey try to work within the rotten system of the duopoly. Both of them have been critics of the fake conservatives, and are real enemies of the left, both have made Trumps hair stand on end at times, both have raised the ire of both parties.
That's what a minority of real conservatives and libertarians do, it works to influence the direction of policy away from the tyrannical inclinations of the establishment.
When there are enough people who are fed up with the two ways of thinking they have been led to believe is all there is, then the move of political discourse beyond left and right is inevitable. It's already been happening in over a decade, Ron Paul himself continues to be a magnet for those people and is still at it today.

Since most people are short sighted and apathetic, and don't react to anything but a major disaster, it may take major economic and social ruin for that to happen, a dismemberment of states into smaller sovereign units or the dismemberment of the United States itself. It may not happen in our lifetimes, but it will happen.
