Charlie,
That question is simple to answer: it's overlooking your opponent and underestimating their desire to beat you, especially when you're the big dog in that conference.

Charlie,

As far as USC being able to beat Miami or OSU, had they not LOST 2 GAMES to Kansas St. and Washington State maybe they would've been given the chance to play one of the Tostito teams.

to paraphrase the old NFL slogan, on any given day ...

let's face it, these are ALL pretty damn good teams. The Orange Bowl was a good matchup but Iowa didn't show us all they've got ... why? ... who knows? ... that could easily explain USCs losses and Oklahomas too ... same could happen to any team.

I gotta admit, I too would like to see USC against Miami, but I'm not a bit unhappy with the matchup tonight ... it SHOULD be good, but could go either way if one of the teams has a down day for whatever reason ...

I cannot argue the point of the losses that USC sustained earlier in season, but after those losses they came toghether to form quite possibly as potent a team as I have seen in last 10 years!!! I am not saying they are the best, but I will say I would bet them against ANY collegiate team this season!

A great team can lose a game or two, but it is how they rise above those losses that proves greatness! You gentlemen (and Marla, if reading this) saw greatness last night!

I seen them play twice, last night and Notre Dame. And they dominated both times. A great running game, a great O-Line, good wide receivers, Heisman winning QB along with an attacking and swarming defense. USC is the real deal. I think they are the only team that can beat Miami.

There is no doubt USC can beat any team at any time.

The part of the bowls I hate the most is the lay off
between the last game and the bowl. You never know
what team will show up. In most cases one the of two
teams lays and egg.

Huskey,

Where you watchin' the game at tonight? My Bro is having a shindig at his house with the widescreen tv and tivo for some instant replay action. Here's hoping it'll be a good time in the Buckeye state this evening!

Cashman and SteveS are both right about Oklahoma. They just got their tails beat by both A&M and OK State on that particular Saturday. No excuses, and to their credit they didn't give any.

CJ, at the Huskey house there was a party tonight
watching the 10 year old 55 inch tv. It hasn't failed
us yet. Knock on wood.

The updates from my brother by cellphone who was at the game was a nice touch.

The Pac 10 is always a very competitive conference, but with the exception of USC in the last half of the season I don't think there was a national championship quality team in the bunch this year. Most of the Pac 10 big football programs fielded "younger" teams this year. Next year and the following year should showcase some excellent teams.

I count my self lucky that my boys played USC early in the season. 🙂
