This doesn't make any real difference in the scheme of things but I'm really curious about how a perfecto shape came to be called "perfecto." I have done quite a bit of research and am aware that this shape was for years, in the past, the most popular cigar shape in America, as well as other parts of the world. I also understand it is a very difficult, tricky shape to hand roll. I found one obscure article that suggested that after rolling it properly by an experienced toracedor (sp.?) it was consider perfection; hence the name "perfecto." As I said this would simply be an interesting bit of trivia for "bar talk" with fellow cigar affectionados but it has also piqued my interest since I can't seem to track down the origin of the name. From the posts I've read on this board, there is a vast amount of cumulative knowledge and I thought someone might have run across the answer. Thanks for any imput.

I was going to say the same thing, so logically this came from a cigar producing nation of Spanish origin, likely Cuba.

Isnt the Perfecto a member of the Figurado family, which are all the shaped cigars?.... :>)

This is what I understand to be the story (the likelyhood that it is apocryphal is high). In the age before nice butane lighters, we had wooden matches. Ever notice how many matches it takes to properly warm and light your cigar? The tapered foot allowed for a perfect light every time with one match, hence the perfecto. My favorite shape by the way.

Just last night after making my original post, I ran across the same explanation on a website on the internet. Followed a couple of links from there and found a similar story containing essentially the same info. Believe I have the topic for the "bar talk." Thanks for the imput.
