American Freedom

This says it all, and I agree.

After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face covered this is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture!

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every! citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

If you agree -- pass this along.

I didnt write this but I agree with it... :>)

Although I do agree for the most part with this, The only problem is the women in question wasn't an immigrant. She was born and raised in America and only converted to Muslim from Christianity a few years ago.

I live in a more tolerant county, although I agree with a lot of this, I believe it could have been writen better. I speak and write the 2 official languages of my country and couldn't imagine it any other way, however I do believe Immigrants should have to make concessions when immigrating to a new country. Unfortunatley most of them will read this article and just get pi$$ed off without understanding the authors point of view. An article worded like this would likely be edited a bit before going to print where I live. Again, I AGREE, but this guys venting more than getting his point across.

Figured I'd give an outsiders point of view.

the author needs to corect some of his facts.

"IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT"

correct.

"This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity.

wrong. we have always been a multicultral society. immigrants came from completely different cultures and here we mix the pot and hopefully get the best from each culture. (hopefully)

"We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language"

correct. in the late 1800's and the early 1900's, it was considered a mitzvah to learn to speak english. (couldn't resist that). my grandmother from hungery and my grandfather from russia went to night school to learn to "speak american." they also went to night school to learn how to become citizens and they did. it was considered a mark of pride to say "i am an american."

" Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation."

wrong. i don't think slavery and slaughter of the native americans is very christian.

"It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture!"

wrong. how dare you mock my beliefs. this is my country also and i don't have any inclination to move just to make you happy. perhaps you should move to someplace that is 100% christian.

Rick:

I thought the author needed to correct some of his facts, as you stated. Well, to which facts are you referring? All you did was express your personal opinions and beliefs in regards to the statements made by the author. You did not correct, or make any factual statements, yourself.

If I want to start a religion where I don't want to put my picture on my driver's license and instead my religious doctrine mandates that we expose our genitalia on any public ID and use that instead of a picture of our face which we believe steels our soul, should this be allowed? This is what is at the heart of this post. That jackass who had to have her face covered. This is ridiculous!!! If she or anyone else doesn't like the rules, don't drive! Take a cab!! Take the bus!! We shouldn't have to endanger our personal safety to "protect" someone else’s kooky customs...

What a ridiculous ruling and that judge should be recalled. All this does is give the terrorist another way to disguise their slimy selves from detection. Also this bitch was born in America and is an American who converted to Muslim or whatever.

I agree with this totally, But we don't have to put down their religious custom in the process. They can take the bus but they don't have to be kooky.

I live in Canada eh! My wifes familly is mostly Ukrainian. Her grand parents are 1st Generation. How soon do a few of her uncles forget. They would agree with every point the Author made. Her Grand father speaks 7 Languages 2 of which are official to Canada French and English.

My familly is French and Irish

did you miss something or was i not clear.
the following are not my opinions, they are reality, fact.

we have always been a multicultral society. immigrants came from completely different cultures and here we mix the pot and hopefully get the best from each culture. (hopefully)

i don't think slavery and slaughter of the native americans is very christian.

how dare you mock my beliefs. this is my country also and i don't have any inclination to move just to make you happy. perhaps you should move to someplace that is 100% christian.

do you consider this opinion as opposed to fact? the only thing that could be construed as opinion is the last paragraph, however it is as much fact as your god paragraph.

ball's in your court.

i don't post garbage ALL the time. i have posted pictures of my pets, cartoons, humidity, books, movies, music and recently part of a menu from a good jewish deli.

i would consider it an honor and a privilege to have any and all responses from you pointed at me. (threats of violence excepted)

may i ask what got your attention and raised your hackels? was it my response to being asked to move if i didn't like your religion making the rules, and suggesting you move?

I have a question. Is not showing a woman's face in public a RELIGIOUS custom or is it a CULTURAL custom? I don't think its religious (although I could be wrong). That being said I don't think many muslims in the middle east pay US taxes.

Therefore, if I convert to muslim isn't paying taxes a violation of my religious rights?

If religious rights supercede those of this country what is to stop a group from forming a religon that allows you to smoke pot, or do cocaine, or make ritualistic killings, or marry multiple partners (hey wait come to think of it that last one was done).

I'm sorry Rick. You have posted lots of other interesting things that I've enjoyed.

I shoulda said "political garbage". I guess that what got me to respond to you, was saying that I mocked your beliefs. Where did I do that?

There is one case I can think of where I think religeon should supercede the govt. Native Americans should be allowed to take Paote. It's been part of their customs for millenia. I know that they were conquered and as such must bow to the U.S., but the govt. doesn't have to keep treating them like ****. Why should we care if they get high and go on vision quests? They're not hurting anyone.
