To celebrate my eighth anniversary, I smoked the Opus X (size Fuente Fuente) that my wife found for me for valentines day. Smoked it at Callahans pub at the Franklin Hotel in Deadwood SD.

It was a beautiful reddish brown color. The wrapper was smooth and felt like silk, with a hint of oil. It felt very firm, with no soft spots. Beautiful cap.

Prelight aroma was heavenly. Clipped it and took a drag without lighting it- nice tobacco flavour with a touch of spiciness. Toasted it, then lit it taking a few small puffs. Once it was lit, I took a nice long drag. Wow! This was a hugely full bodied cigar. I almost started choking. I learned from this, and my next puff was not quite so big. This cigar was cigar perfection. Rich and strong, with an awesome earthy, spicy flavour. Finish lasted minutes, and was like a perfect espresso. About halfway through, the flavour became more subtle and picked up an almost chocolate flavour that was even better than the first half.

Even though this cigar was only the size of a cuban corona gorda (@ 5.5x46)it took me about an hour and a half to smoke. The ash held on until past the halfway point, when I accidentally hit it on my cup and broke it off. With about an inch left, it began to heat up and get a little harsh, so I put it down and let it go to sleep.

I have heard a lot of hype about these cigars, and now I can say that it is well deserved. The only thing that sucks is that now I have acquired a taste for these, and I can not afford to indulge myself!

You can still be saved --- do not cross over to the Darkside..... for in that journey, you will be lost forever ---Resist all temptations to move up to an Opus Perfexion X or the Opus Double Chateau or Double Reserve---fight the temptation to light a Diamond Crown No. 7 --shun all notions of a PAM Serie 1964..... if you see any of these in your humidor - pack them off to me and save yourself ...I will help you resist the calling of the Darkside........

For my third anniversary this past Monday, I enjoyed a Perfexion X with a 1993 bottle of Dom gifted to me by one of my employees. Life is truly good!!

Congradulations on the 8 years. I hit 9 this September. Yes, Opus are a truly wonderful thing when they are well taken care of.

Well I just had my 10th anni. last month but my wife will have nothing to do with my taste for cigars. Nevertheless, nice to hear one detail their Opus experiences so well. I've enjoyed an opus or 2 every month for I enjoyed a my first Lancero last week. Everyone keeps telling me how Opuses are special occassion cigars along with Ashton VSG, high end Gurkhas, PANs ans PAMs.

The problem I'm having is that my life has encountered so many more special occassions since I started enjoying these premium cigars. Next special occassion.... Pac NW Herf in Kirkland Wa this Saturday. Is Wednesday and Sunday a special occassion??

Waking up and being able to see the grass from the top rather then looking up at its roots - that's all the "Special" motivation anyone should ever need to enjoy any fine cigars.

In the focus on Opus X -- do not ignore the Diamond Crown line -- same filler but with a double fermented wrapper and always a 54 Ring !!
In fact - pls excuse me --- I believe a DC # 7 is awaiting my attention.

Oh, and speaking of anniversaries, last night before I went out to smoke before bed I heard my wife say "happy anniversary dear" as I was walking out the door.

DOH!

Mark, you're sooooo busted... You need to do something VERY special to make up for that... It's my wife's birthday tomorrow. She got a PC 2 months ago (early bday present) so tomorrow we're going out for dinner. I told her I'd take the day off and drive around and look at floor tiles with her, etc... But she insisted I go to work. Maybe the pool boy is coming over?
