He was funny, and he looked funny. He said something one night on the old Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson that I have never forgot: "I never carry a grudge. You know why? Because while you're at home with your grudge, they're out dancing."

Hollywood lost some big ones in the last few weeks.

he told a story of his father working as an upholster in the catskills when buddy was a kid. it seems the owner of the hotel wouldn't pay his father the ten bucks he owed him for a job and there was nothing his father could do about it.

years later when buddy was working the catskills at $10,000. a night, he was booked at the same hotel his father had done the upholstery and buddy demanded, and got, $10,010. when he saw his dad, he said here's the ten bucks they owe you.

that put a lump in my throat.
