No, this is not a post about moist relitives.

I have a real question. I have noticed that I have trouble maintaining 70% relitive humidity when my humidor is filled to capicity and no problem whatsoever maintianing 70% in my humidors that are only 1/2 to 2/3rd full. Is this consistent with your experiences? Is it best to not fill a humidor to capacity?

Any thoughts or observations?

I have a 100-125 stick humidor that is always well stocked. I take out my humidification device bi-weekly and soak it for about two hours in distilled water then allow it two hours to dry a bit. The humidor stays at about 70%-75% for the next two weeks. I did find at first, when my humidor was new, that I needed to put a bowl full of distilled water in the bottom for a few days to let the wood soak up the moisture. Obviously do this without any sticks inside! Once I did this it has held pretty well since. Before I did this I could not get my guage to go about about 50%. Hope this helps somewhat.

This is not uncommon. Many things affect relAtive humidity including how many cigars you have in the humi, the amount of spanish cedar, how wet or dry your humidifier is. As long as it's around the correct RH i wouldn't worry about it too much. Personally I like to keep my cigars stored at around 68% RH as they smoke a helluva lot better that way. I think there is a trend out there that is moving away from the 70% RH theory, and folks are keeping their stogies on the shy side of 70.

I haven't been able to get mine over 68 yet. Seems to change with the temp. in the house. I live in Washington state, and it's starting to get a bit cold. During the day while I'm at work, I turn the heat down and the humidity goes down to about 65 or 66. Get the heat going in the evening, and it gets back to 68. i have a 50-75 sized humidor, with about 40 smoke in it and one of those round credos. Maybe I should try a larger one.

I agree with ironbar.......keep it slightly under the 70% which most people think is best and your gars' will smoke much better.
