Yeah ... what those guys said ...

Who else besides me noticed the survey that ESPN did in which they asked all the major league baseball players to name the greatest living player ... ???

The surprise was not that Barry Bonds was named by most of his fellow players ... the surprise was that EIGHT of them said Babe Ruth

The Babe, of course, died in August of 1948, years before any of those guys were even born ... it's logical they didn't see his obit

Babe Ruth, A good part of his baseball career he played after partying the night before, can you imagine how many home runs he would have hit if he used " legalized steroids " like some players use today. JonR

Oh about 1000 or more home runs if he had used the legalized steriods and had the rabbit baseball and the little ball parks, and I could keep going on! The year the Babe hit 60 homeruns that was more than entire baseball teams hit in that same season. I believe the runner up to his 60 was Lou Gehrig with 47 homeruns. He would have benefitted with all of the above as well!

Sorry to jack this thread again, but.....

Charlie and JonR - legalized steroids?? Is that what these guys are using? I don't think that's accurate....

Take a walk through GNC sometime and read some of labels on the products. Hundreds of different products, none of which are 'legalized' steroids, or any type of steroids for that matter - and anyone can use these products in any way they want. Nothing illegal about it. Athletes use these products (me included) to get any kind of edge they can get. I use creatine, amino acid supplements and whey protein on a regular basis. All natural, and perfectly legal. The stuff I use works. The kicker: I have to work my butt off to stay in top shape, but these products help give me that little bit extra needed to improve. That is why they are called supplements (not legalized steroids) - They supplement your workout and help you improve. Today's athlete has that advantage, and most pro ball players would be stupid if they didn't use some of these products to their advantage. If they don't, the next guy will.

And just so you know - While I'm at GNC, I could buy the whole store, spend thousands of dollars, take every supplement in the book, workout 8 hours a day for a year, etc. It still wouldn't help me hit 60 homeruns in one season in the big leagues. There is no pill that makes you hit home runs - not even for Barry Bonds or Babe Ruth.

Sorry - I just thought your comments weren't very accurate.....

You make some valid points; however, Babe Ruth is still the greatest of all homerun hitters, with or without GNC and "wonderdrugs" or whatever you want to call them!

This is exactly what he wanted ... this is exactly what he was talking about!

This is the one thread that I think is impossible to thread-jack ...

Absolutely Charlie - Ruth was one of the greatest ball players that ever lived! (remember - he started out as a pitcher!! career ERA of 2.28 in 163 games pitched).

It's hard to compare anyone in terms of baseball ability with Babe Ruth. You just can't do it.

Hopefully my post didn't come off the wrong way - I think your post was tongue-in-cheek. I just think people are quick to push the steroids-button without realizing what these guys are really using.

Although - I don't know what Bonds is using when he hit 73, but he didn't get it at GNC!! If he did, I haven't found it yet!!

Just for fun, get some old baseball cards or old baseball mag and look at pictures of Bonds and Sosa 5 to 7 years ago, skinny and each had heads that must have been a full hat size smaller than what they wear today! What causes your head to swell (besides overblown ego) and grow as much as a full hat size or more? Ain't from GNC.
