After reading the following old post, I have some questions..............................................Date: 06/17/2000 12:58 PM

Subject: aging (cigars, not smokers)

I've been a cigar smoker for abut 10 years, and, honestly, haven't noticied the big advantages so many of us report here resulting from aging off cigars. Until now. I bought a box of those inexpensive yellow band Dominican Cohibas about a year or so ago, smoked a couple, and found them bitter and harsh, and a poor burn. So, having relagated them to the back of the humidors, they sat next to the monte's and ashtons. I'm definetly no expert on what transpired, but I can tell you as I sample this relic, that the aging deal does make a huge difference in this particular cigar. I strongly recommend aging those yellow band Dominican Cohibas................................................What is the advantage of aging? Is it for the dog rockets to (hopefully) get better? Is it for your premiums to get even that much better? Are there certain sticks that you would recommend to put away for that special occassion *kids graduation, wedding reception, winning the lottery, etc...* or what's the deal? I did a search already.

you forgot the obvious reason, some of us have so many cigars we have to age them if we want to or not.

Aging a cigar allows a cigar to give up some of its harshness and to take on the flavors that the maker intended by blending certain tabaccos, different wrappers, fillers etc... we age our cigars in cedar lined humidors to take on some of the characteristics of the Spanish Cedar. Just like vinters or whisky makers age their products in oak barrels. A wine tends to mellow and get better with age, just like a great cigar.

hi chick and all, well the best reason in my opinion for aging cigars is to cure the leaves. As the leaves age the give off ammonia....which is basicly nitrogen and hydrogen.....now ammonia is a toxic gas...thats why they tell ya not to inhale...stuff will ruin your lungs...as the leaves age they give off less ammonia.IN other words the older the leaves the less ammonia they will give off. Thats my opinion.

I was shaking with fear as I wrote the post that "the" wanyburger would rebuke and chastise me for not (even though I did) doing a search and for most likely beating a dead horse. Just trying to head you off at the pass, man.
