I had the pleasure to meet, talk and share smoke today with a wonderful Cuban gentleman named Fransisco . He had a lifetime of stories to tell from fighting in the Bay of Pigs to smoking farm rolled cigars in the Pinar Region. He was very kind and shared his Cohiba Esplendidos with us, educated us about Cuban cigars and explained why the Cohiba Explendido is the cigar for him. He also shared his opinions about the U.S. embargo, Castro and the plight of the Cuban people. It was an extremely educational experience and I couldn't thank him enough for the Cohiba.

There's nothing like an getting history / sociology from a man that has lived it.

I met him at a friends cigar shop. He is an acuaintance of my friends father and stops in the shop everynow and then to share cigars and stories.

The Cohiba Esplendido is the cigar for him for a couple of reasons. He likes the flavor because he said it reminds him of the cigars he smoked in Cuba in his younger days. He also commmented about the taste of the cigar after it has gone out and has to be relit. He insists that it is a trademark of Cuban cigars, especially the Cohiba, that if it goes out and is relit later, the cigars flavor profile doesn't go bad. He said he can lay one down and come back to it the next day and the flavor is still good. In cigars from other countries, "not so good." Besides flavor and appearance, he says it is the most recognizable cigar from Cuba and he likes the excitement he sees in people when he gives one away.

I definately agree that the Esplendido can be relit and still taste good. I've done it several times. I have also done this with non-ISOM cigars and had good success, though not every time. To me, that is a mark of a good cigar, no matter what country produced it. Purging it makes a HUGE difference.
