WENT TO A PARTY, MOM
I went to a party, And remembered what you said. You told me not
to drink, Mom So I had a sprite instead.
> > >>
I felt proud of myself, The way you said I would, That I didn't drink and drive, Though some friends said I should.
> > >>
I made a healthy choice, And your advice to me was right, The party finally ended, And the kids drove out of sight.
> > >>
I got into my car, Sure to get home in one piece, I never knew what was coming, Mom Something I expected least.
> > >>
Now I'm lying on the pavement, And I hear the policeman say, The kid that caused this wreck was drunk, Mom, his voice seems far away.
> > >>
> > >>My own blood's all around me, As I try hard not to cry. I can hear the paramedic say, This girl is going to die.
> > >>
I'm sure the guy had no idea, While he was flying high, Because he chose to drink and drive, Now I would have to die.
> > >>
So why do people do it, Mom Knowing that it ruins lives? And now the pain is cutting me, Like a hundred stabbing knives.
> > >>
Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom Tell daddy to be brave, And when I go to heaven, Put Daddy's Girl on my grave.
> > >>
Someone should have taught him, That its wrong to drink and drive. Maybe if his parents had, I'd still be alive.
> > >>
My breath is getting shorter, Mom I'm getting really scared. These are my final moments, And I'm so unprepared.
> > >>
I wish that you could hold me Mom, As I lie here and die. I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!" So I love you and goodbye.

I have three daughters, made me reflect for awhile..SP

My .02? Drunk drivers that kill someone need to be tried for first degree murder. The drinking was premeditated, the rest matters not at all. Maybe the thought of 30+ years will prevent those extra drinks from being consumed. Also, anyone cought driving drunk, one time, looses thier license. For at least a year. Get caught again, jail time and no license for 10 years. Get cought without a license driving, off to the Hooscow!!(sp). I mean for real guys (and gals) this is a serious deal and people die because of others dumb as* mistakes. It needs to stop. MK

A friend of mine just got a second DWI his punishment is a fine and 5 days in jail.

I agree that the penalties are not severe enough. But I also think a problem is that some people think they are sober enough to drive when they really aren't. I'm surprised cars don't come equiped with some breathalizer so you can check to see if you are in the legal limit.

Breathalizers are available to the general public. No need to equip autos with them. I purchased one a few years back during the Holidays. Dont know why, but maybe it was because I felt I had cheated the system once to often. Better paranoid than busted I always say. I think it is a correct assumption for most that even tho you don't feel the effects of the alcohol, much, you may be well passed the legal limit. I was amazed at the small amout of alcohol I needed to consume to reach California's legal limit. I felt nothing. I guess my high tolerance and girth may have something to do with it. But I am much more careful. I may have a few after Softball at the watering hole, but I make sure there is ample time between my last drink and my exit. (the breathalizer got broken) And if I feel like tying one on, its at home.

I used to drink and drive, on a daily basis, till I lost 4 of my friends, in a single accident. They were sober, and were on their way to pick me up, after work. We were going to the late night club, stayed open til 6 a.m. we all worked at resturants, so we worked until 11:00 p.m. On the way to pick me up, their small car was hit by a 1 ton 4wd off road wrecker truck, driven by a guy, who regestered .34 B.A.C. I lost 4 of the best friends, a guy ever had. But it took that loss, to make me realize the impact, that drinking and driving has, on the friends and families, of the innocent victims. The driver of the wrecker truck got a 3 year suspended sentence, with 5 years probation and alcohol treatment, thogh he was killed less than a year later, in another alcohol related accident, though thankfully, that one was a single vehicle accident. Damn, I'm missing those guys again.
